"Guys, I think I've got the hang of this!" Eric yelled from outside. When Oliver and Lucis ran outside they saw him pointing the gun at the target.

"Show us." Lucis said. Eric nodded and fired. Bullseye.

"Wow! You really are getting this!" Oliver exclaimed. Eric beamed. "All we need is a zombie!"

"I think we got some." Lucis said. Oliver and Eric followed his gaze to see 5 of 6 zombies coming their way. Lucis and Oliver instantly wiped out their weapons. Eric fumbled with his gun before raising it at the zombies. The zombies limped forward. Oliver could see beads of sweat rolling down Lucis' face. Lucis took the first shot, sending a bullet through the nearest zombie's head. Eric fumbled with the trigger and missed. Oliver yelled and swung the bloodied double bladed ax into a zombie. Lucis keeped firing as Eric stood petrified, gun hanging on his fingertips. Oliver cut down the last zombie. The zombie's blood spattered onto Oliver's already bloody face. "You'll get better." Lucis said, not looking at Eric as he spoke to him. "Just don't freak out next time."

"I didn't want to hit Oliver." Eric defended himself instantly. Lucis sighed and pinched the place where his nose and forehead connected.

"He'll get better, don't worry." Oliver said, patting Lucis on the back.

"Let's make him practice on moving targets." Lucis concluded. He walked back inside.

"I'm sorry Oliver." Eric said.

"It's fine." Oliver said, not looking at him. Oliver walked back inside.

**

Oliver was nightguard. The round moon gave Oliver some light. Oliver clutched the double bladed ax. Oliver could feel eyes on his back. Eric's. Oliver looked back at the house to see Eric's amber eyes illuminated by the light coming from inside. The amber eyes blinked. Oliver blinked back. Another blink. Back and forth. The amber eyes disappeared and Lucis' blue eyes replaced it. Oliver nodded and turned away. The feeling of being watched stopped and Oliver looked back at the house. No eyes peered out of the now dark house. Oliver sighed and turned back to the street. Time to kill some zombies.

"Help me..."

Oliver didn't look.

"Help me please... Oliver..."

This time Oliver did look. It was the scientist. Oliver stepped back, ax raised.

"Help me... don't trust... your... friend..."

"I won't trust you." Oliver hissed. "Ever."

"I know more... than... your friend..."

"And I've known my friend for my entire life! You're insane!"

"I... am not... insane..." The man said. "Just... hurt..." He gasped for air. "I was hit... by Carol... on the way out... of the lab..." Oliver took another step back, eyes wide. "I... am... the second... zombie..." Oliver brought the ax down. The man's head hit the concrete below. There was a scream of rage and before Oliver could react he was tackled to the ground.

"You killed him!" A girl's voice hollered. "You killed him!" Her hands were now wrapped around Oliver's neck. The door to the house banged open.

"Help!" Oliver called out. Lucis was there in a flash, ripping the girl off his friend. He noticed the man's dead body.

"Why are you helping that murderer?" The girl hissed. "You should turn him over to the proper authorities!"

"There are no proper authorities here." Lucis said. Oliver jumped up after retrieving the ax.

"What do you mean?" The girl asked.

"How do you not know about the apocalypse?" Eric asked. "Have you been living in a hole?"

"What kind of apocalypse? Like the kind on TV?"

"No, the kind in real life." Oliver said.

"Have you never seen a zombie?"

"Well dad said one of his co-workers was the first zombie." The girl said, crossing her arms. "That's as close as you can get." Oliver laughed.

"The first zombie was my great-great-great-great-great-grandma." Oliver said. "How's that for close!"

"THAT'S NOT CLOSE ENOUGH!" The girl yelled. Oliver leaned in angrily. The girl stepped back, scared by his bloody face.

"Do you see this blood?" Oliver asked, pointing at his face. "This is zombie blood. And yes, in fact, some of this blood belongs to the first zombie." He pulled back, leaving the girl shocked.

"I think you should leave." Lucis said. "You don't want to be around Oliver when he's mad."

"Wait, your Oliver?"

"Why do you care?" Oliver asked, not really wanting an answer. He turned to Lucis and Eric. "Let's go back inside. I think I'm done for the night." The two boys silently agreed and led the way up the brick steps to the front door.

"WAIT!" The girl yelled, running after them. "I have nowhere else to go!"

"Sorry, we've already taken in all the newbies we can handle." Lucis said, not looking back as he opened the door. The warm indoor air welcomed him and his comrades with open arms. Lucis inhaled deeply and smiled.

"I'm no newbie!" The girl pleaded.

"We'll consider tomorrow." Oliver sighed, hands rubbing neck. Oliver hadn't gotten over the fact that the girl had tried to kill Oliver. The girl whimpered.

"I can't stay out here with a dead body." She complained. "It'll attract flies." The door slammed.

"What did you do this time?" Lucis asked Oliver, hands on hips.

"The scientist dude wanted me to help him. He told me not to trust you." Oliver said.

"So you killed him?" Eric asked.

"Obviously." Oliver said, collapsing onto his bed. "Let's go to sleep, we'll have to deal with the girl in the morning." The lights turned off.

"Why do you think she attacked you?" Lucis asked from somewhere in the now pitch black room. "She's old enough to figure out that the scientist's insane."

"She didn't even know about the apocalypse." Eric said. "Do you really think she'd think he's insane?"

"Let's finish this in the morning." Oliver's voice cut through the darkness. "If she's still there."

And of course, the next morning, she was.
