"So are you letting me in or not?"

"So we've been thinking..."

"I know you have, everyone does."

"Don't be smart with us."

"Okay." The girl folded her torn up pink skirt and sat down, legs crossed. "I'm waiting." Lucis turned to talk to his friends.

"Are we really going to let her in?" He said in a hushed voice.

"She seems like she really wants to." Oliver whispered back.

"But what if she turns out to be like the scientist?" Lucis reminded his friend. There was a little hem-hem making the friends look at the girl.

"I'm waiting." She smiled, her voice suddenly melodic. "I wanna go inside."

"She won't give up." Eric said.

"Yes, I won't give up." The girl said, voice still melodic. "I want in."

"We won't let you." Lucis said, making his friends look at him.

"Why not?" The girl asked.

"Because you attacked my friend." Lucis said. "You attacked Oliver for no reason."

"He killed my father!" The girl jumped up. "That's not nothing!"

"You're father's insane!" Lucis fired back. "I'm sorry if you've been living under a rock your entire life but he is!"

"But what if you're insane!" The girl spat. "You've lived your lifes in a zombie apocalypse!"

"At least I've been with someone!" Lucis yelled. "Your father was alone for 75 years! He practically caused the apocalypse." Before the girl could say anything Oliver stepped forward.

"You should leave." Oliver said firmly. "You're not welcome here."

"Fine." The girl turned and stormed off.

"Don't you think that was a bit harsh?" Eric asked.

"No." Oliver and Lucis said simultaneously, shaking their heads. They walked back inside.

**

Eric killed his first zombie.

It happened 3 days after the girl incident. Eric was doing target practice and Oliver and Lucis were inside. That's when Eric heard the zombie. He whipped up his gun, eyes locked on the zombie. Lucis' voice rang in his head; kill it! Come on, kill it! Eric pulled the trigger. The bullet sailed right through the zombie's chest. The zombie fell to the ground. The door to the house banged open and Oliver and Lucis ran outside.

"What happened?" Oliver demanded. Lucis' eyes trailed from Eric to the zombie body.

"Holy-" He said, mouth agape. "You actually did it." Eric felt a surge of pride well up inside him. Oliver found the corpse.

"Wow." Oliver said. "Good job Eric." Eric smiled.

"Do you still not like violence?" Lucis asked him.

Eric shrugged. "Kinda." There was a shriek of rage, making the three's heads snap up. No one was there. "What was that?" Eric asked.

"I don't know." Lucis said.

"Let's get back inside." Oliver said. "We don't want to get caught up in anything suspicious at the moment." Eric and Lucis nodded and followed Oliver inside.

"Good shot." Lucis whispered into Eric's ear.

"Thanks." Eric whispered back, a smile spreading across his face. The door closed behind him.

January 15, 1991

"Zombies? We haven't even hit the 2000's! We're still working on space travel."

"Trust me on this one."

"Zombies are supposed to stay in fiction, not come into the real world."

"Can you just believe me on this one? The 2000's are so close, anything can happen!"

"Anything can happen."

"I am you boss! I get to decide what we do or don't do!"

"What you do or don't do. I quit."

"You can't just quit!"

"Well, I just did. Good luck with your zombies."

The door slammed closed.

**

Oliver gasped awake from a nightmare. It was midnight and Lucis and Eric were still asleep. Oliver sat in the dark, panting for breath. Oliver looked around the darkened house, slightly silhouetted by dim moonlight. Oliver calmed the breaths and tried to fall back to sleep. A door slammed. Oliver jumped up. Lucis and Eric didn't stir. Footsteps. High heels, clicking across the floor. Oliver stood in silence, hearing the clacking grow closer and louder. How were Lucis and Eric still asleep? Oliver carefully moved through the darkened room and grabbed the ax. The one night that they had decided not to have a night guard someone broke in. Oliver stood at the door, listening to the heels coming closer. They stopped at the door Oliver was hiding behind.

Oliver's breath caught in Oliver's throat. Who was this person and why couldn't Lucis and Eric hear them? Am I growing crazy? Oliver panicked. Am I insane like the girl said? Oliver shook his head. You've lived your lifes in a zombie apocalypse! Oliver didn't dare breathe. At least I've been with someone! Oliver could hear breathing on the other side of the door. Don't. Panic. Oliver's eyes closed and Oliver's lips let out a breath. I'm. Not. Crazy. He whipped the door open. No one was there. Oliver took some deep breaths, fully panicking. Then Oliver heard the clacking of the heels again, this time in the kitchen. Oliver stepped out into the hallway and walked towards the kitchen, feet padding silently on the smooth floor. There was a silhouette in the kitchen, standing next to the fridge. It was a woman. Oliver raised the ax.

"Who's there?" Oliver asked, voice shaking. The woman's head looked up.

"You can see me?" She asked, disbelief clearly supporting her voice.

"I said, who's there?" Oliver demanded, voice cutting through the darkness like the ax Oliver held. The woman fully turned towards him.

"Turn on a light and you'll see." Her voice was melodic, like the girls.

"You're an intruder." Oliver hissed. "That's all I need to know." Oliver stepped forward, ax swinging towards the woman. The woman stepped out of the way and the lights turned on. The woman was nowhere to be seen.

"Oliver?"

Oliver turned to see Lucis and Eric watching their friend.

"Are you okay?"

"I don't think I am." Oliver said. Lucis stepped forward, concern flaring in his eyes.

"What did you do Oliver?"
