The rest of the lesson passed by quickly. Violet was quite startled that the bell rang so soon. Peter packed up his stuff in a hurry, seemingly excited to go home.
Violet took her time, she didn't like crowds and preferred to wait for the hallways to be empty before travelling between classes or home. Violet bid goodbye to Mr Davis and made her way out the doors. Violet was meant to catch the bus home but she had told Ms Wren she tutored kids after school some days. She did not. Ms Wren texted her telling her to catch the subway home and be home by 7. This gave violet three ish hours before she had to get to the subway. It allowed Violet to stop by the library on the way home. She made a beeline for the fiction section. Browsing the shelves, picked up Six of Crows and Good Girls Guide to Murder.
Violet checked the time, it was 4.15 a decent time to start her nightly routine. After getting changed in the library toilets, climbing out the window and ditching her bag behind a dumpster she climbed up to the library roof and adjusted her web shooters.
In all honesty Violet had never planned to use her spider powers for hero stuff but she couldn't sleep at night hearing all the people suffering. It started with a beanie to hide her face and just snowballed from there. She got some headlines after she worked with Spider-man to stop a truck from flipping, saving 8 people in the process. He gave her some web shooters after discovering they had both been bitten by an oscorp spider. An old lady that she helped with groceries every Saturday sewed her a suit. And since then she has been the one and only Spider-woman.
She swung through the city on high alert for danger. It was easy to fall back into routine, stopping thieves and muggers and helping get cats out of trees. Her spider sense started to ring just as she reached Brooklyn danger danger danger.
She dropped down gracefully to the sidewalk, she couldn't see anything out of place. It was a fairly busy street with a lot of construction going on. People started to point and stare at her taking photos and videos. Anxiety gripped Violet's chest; she was nervous with all the people around that a lot of bystanders could be hurt. Her senses rung out painfully in her ears making them pop. Violet climbed up the scaffolding to halfway up the building. The sound of metal screeching came from above. A piece of a crane fell through the air with a woosh.
Violet jumped into action shooting a web hooking the crane. it came to a sudden stop she reinforced the hold by adding more webs and attaching the ends to the side of the building. but her webbing was designed to dissolve after two hours, something that wasn't useful in this situation. Violet looked at the footpath a rather large crowd had gathered. Violet had to find a way of getting the crane somewhere it wouldn't have a fall risk. Violet looked around there was to many people nearby to lower it to the ground. Violet came to the realisation to pull it up to the roof of the building was her only option so that there wouldn't be a risk of people being hurt because they didn't move out of the way. Violet positioned herself on the top of the building and tried to use her raw strength to pull up the crane arm, straining with the effort her feet slipped on the concrete. it was too heavy. Just as Violet was about to give up an idea came to her, she noticed some old wheels on the roof. perfect. she used wheels and her webs to make a pulley system that would lessen the load on her. using the last of her strength in one final pull to drag the crane up. With a loud crash the crane settled on the roof. Violet laughed in relief and collapsed onto the floor to catch her breath.
she swung back to the library to go home. It was nearly sunset and an orange hue had settled over the city. Violet's favourite time of day when people were leaving work and heading home to have dinner with family. Violet imagined going home to a proper family, making dinner with her dad. sitting around a table together, talking about their day. Watching tv laughing with her siblings. Being tucked into bed by her mum. She shook that fantasy from her and walked into the house.
"your late." Ms wren acknowledged as she walked out of the kitchen. "You missed dinner." Her voice was full of anger she was trying to hide. her shoulders tense. Violet flinched back subconsciously.
"Sorry I had to stay back and pack up." Violet lied smoothly. her eyes fixed on Ms Wren taking in her every movement.
"Okay fine just don't be late again." most of the tension lest Ms Wren's shoulders. Violet nodded. "There's leftovers in the fridge, pasta"
"Thankyou Ms Wren"
Mr wren walked into her room leaving Violet to eat. She scoffed down her pasta, cleaned out the container and quickly went to bed. not wanting to get into anymore trouble.
An: sorry its short it was kinda a filler chapter.
