Violet had a problem, and for once it was the normal high school girl kind. She had nothing to wear. What was she meant to wear out to a girls day? She had never been to one before. All her clothes were worn down thin from their years in service, passed down between the sad girls at st tides or one of the other group homes. none seemed right. While she normally didn't care what others thought of her, she cared what Natasha and pepper did. She wanted to make a good first impression on Wanda too.
Looking into her bag that contained her clothes she pulled out one of the less worn out pairs of jeans. they didn't fit her that well and went out of style fifteen years ago so she never wore them but at least she wouldn't look underdressed compared to the others. She put on her old t-shirt with the jumper she had been given for the court case.
Despite her attempts she still looked ragged next to everyone else. the others seemed to glow, maybe it was some strange expensive ingredient in their shampoo, insect organs or something. She awkwardly walked up to where they were having a quick coffee before leaving.
"Would you like one?" Wanda asked her.
Violet shook her head, avoiding eye contact.
The women finished their coffees and they made their way down to the garage. The road was still icy from last night. Piles of snow had been shovelled to the edge of the road. Violet tightened her seatbelt.
"Should we put on some music?" Pepper asked.
"Yeah" Wanda responded from next to her.
Natasha sat in the passenger seat and Pepper drove. Pepper leaned over to fiddle with the centre console. Fear creeped into her lungs, cutting off her breath. She turned out the window. if something was going to happen she would sense it. She told herself. She turned back to pepper, she was still fiddling with the radio.
"Maybe Natasha could find a station," Wanda suggested.
Violet looked over at her. It was like Wanda could read her mind. She probably could with all the magic she had. She turned to Violet and smiled. With pepper's attention focused back on the road she started to feel safer.
The mall was massive and had more shops crammed into one building than Violet had ever seen. She tried to remember the last time she had gone to a mall, she couldn't remember ever going to one.
"Was there any shop you would like to look in?" Pepper asked her.
She shook her head
"I say we just do a loop, see if there's anything we like." Natasha shrugged.
The four started their loop, mostly window shopping. Violet saw a few things she liked but felt bad about asking to have a look, knowing they would want to buy it if she liked it. But then again Natasha was very perceptive and seemed to suggest going into the shops that Violet was looking in. every five seconds one of them would hold something up to her and ask if she liked it. Then in each store they would go into the change rooms and have a fashion show of all the pieces they liked. She noticed different things about each of their styles. Pepper was the epitome of class and professionalism, even in her at home clothes she somehow was able to make it look like she could do any person's job, in heels. The clothes Wanda wore made her look older than twenty, they didn't have much in common, like she was still trying to find her style and wore whatever made her happy, even if they didn't necessarily match. Natasha dressed like the young cool mum that would bring you Starbucks after school. Violet wasn't sure what she wanted to wear. It was strange to have a choice. She tended to lean to more practical things, jeans, long sleeve shirts and hoodies. But after trying one on for fun she fell in love with cardigans. As soon as Pepper found this out she wanted to get her one in every colour. Violet declined the offer instead getting a plain black one and a muted red. Halfway through their shop they stopped for coffee and a snack. They sat in the food court and went through their clothes, showing them off as if they hadn't all just gotten them.
