chapter 2 (New York)

I got to new York , it was different.the city ,the view was so amazing, I stuck my head out of the taxi to see the view, the taxi drop me in from of an old apartment in brooklyn. I pressed the code I was given ,an old white man answer me and open for me it turn out he is the caretaker of the apartment, he said am on the second floor , he asked me where I am from cause my name sound foreign ,I told him he can called me Lara and am from south Africa. He opened the door and give me the key. It was a one bedroom apartment, immediately you open the door you can see the couch, at the back of the couch there is bed ,on your right side there is a kitchen, just after the kitchen ,the bathroom.that is the only place I can offer ,I just have to make it home for now, I said to myself .I cleaned the place,put a new sheet on the bed the one I brought from home, place my family pictures on the shelf closes to the television, opened the blinds I could see it already night I need to eat and wake up early tomorrow to find a part time job . I was hopeful for what to come.
(Alarm ringing it 6:30am) I sluggish stand from the bed , brush my teeth , showers, put on a t-shirt and jeans. He we go I said to myself , locked the door . I walked around the neighborhood ; I took a picture of myself to post on socials before taking a taxi to the school . School was interesting.
I was so hungry cause I didn't eat anything on the morning; I was walking around to find where to eat I saw a advert they needed a waitress; I went in and I got the job. I started immediately.
I got home late that day ; I called my family to let them know am okay .it was lonely, cause all I got to do was school in the morning, work two jobs to be able to survive. Any free time I get I sleep, tried to see the city. At school I made some friends but cause I had to work , I had no time to socialize. Some time when am home sick I cried ,call my family and I feel better. When you migrate to a new places or country no one tells you about the loneliness, been looked down upon, you feeling like an outside and trying to fit in. It terrifying. All you can think of is the opportunity and push through everyday. That was my life. Sometimes I go to club , bars to feel like my age, little by little I begin to find my way.

Right over at the west coast side (California) twins boys was born to Dr and Mrs heerden's, Dr heerden's father owe a vineyard which produces wine. Maxwell always been interested in winemaking thanks to his granddaddy, max was about thirteen year old when he and his twin got into an accident due to there dad's brother, he likes to drink alot, he got on the wheels drunk Max lost his twin, uncle that day, max barely survive too , he has to have a surgery , one of the tree branch was stuck in tight pinning one of his balls on his tight. Dr and Mrs heerden's was praying and hoping their boy's survive, but max brother didn't make it . When they learn max made it out of the surgery alive , they felt relief and also sad cause Doctor heerden lost his only brother and son , he also felt guilty that why did he allowed his brother to pickup his son's. Maxwell spend five weeks in the hospital before been discharge . This makes dr and Mrs heerden so much protective of Maxwell. There was a secret that was told to the couple about max which they keep a secret from him . They were told max only has one testicle ,but they did correct it, max only firty percent chance of getting anyone pregnant. Dr heerden's said along has he has firty percent they will take it. At least her son his alive that all that matters to her. Maxwell granddaddy was heartbroken about the accident too. Max went to university of California to study viticulture and
Enology, his grandad was happy at least he will have someone to look after his business , Dr heerden didn't take kindly to this , Maxwell is a genius, because of this Dr heerden thought his son will be a doctor or even aim higher but to his surprise he went to study viticulture and enology, he got a masters in wine marketing and business administration. This sent overprotective dad to his limit. Max and his dad got into a fight one day and Dr heerden angrily reveal the secret to max, Mrs heerden always tried to be the peacemakers between her husband and son. Mrs heerden is not a saint also every girl max has ever dated she never liked them. Maxwell has two best friend drew Presley is childhood friend and Anthony they met in university.
At the age of 28, he turned his granddad vineyard into a multimillion estate, heerden's wine becomes one of the best wine in the country, when his granddad passed away he turn the house his granddad lived in to a hotel, since it was on the ground of the vineyard, Maxwell relationship suffer due to the time he put in at work, cause he wanted to prove his father wrong, then he meet Mimi , Mimi an actress they were both in love even with his parents not in support of the relationship.when have they ever liked any girl he brought home. They were engaged but broke up when Mimi cheated on him with a famous director who she later got married too. He was heartbroken , he had couple of relationship after that but nothing worked out, cause most of after his money says Mrs heerden when she carried out her investigation into the woman in her son life. He devoted his time into his work, and hardly trust people . Heerden's vineyard hotel became popular among celebrities, socialite, his restaurant has better chef's.
Maxwell has his boys, drew Presley family owns a record label and tv cable, he is the CEO and executive chairman. Anthony Johnson is attorney in a big law firm and also Maxwell attorney . His friends know about how his mom always do background checks on his girlfriend. These boys fear Mrs heerden. Everyone envy Maxwell because of how smart he is, even with how annoying and overbearing his parents are, he loved them, for sometime Maxwell was know to the public by his relationship with Mimi through the scandal.
