Come mid spring the flatirons finally have some warmer days.
It's been around a week since Revvit and Ty's strange incident but after this long without talking about it,things have gone back to normal.
While on their way way back to the ravine via the underground tunnels,Click-Clack wanted to go with Revvit alone. He had a question to ask the other reptool.
Alone on the traveling cart,Revvit ran along the top like a tread mill to keep the cart moving."So uh-,Revvit?" asked the orange tool. The yellow was a bit distracted with keeping the cart moving but he did answer,"Yes,Click-Clack?"
The orange tool felt a little nervous asking but spit it out eventually,"Where are you-uhm-gonna lay your eggs?"
Revvit brought the cart to a stop half way to the ravine. He jumped down off the treadmill and sat in front of the orange tool."Click-Clack,why are you asking me that?"
The orange tool backed up,clearly more nervous then before."We-well,it's the breeding season and everyone's talking about it.I can fe-feel my body..It's strange and I-I'm scared.I don't know what to do so I thought I'd ask you..Y-you know since your older and s-stuff."
The yellow tool relaxed himself,"Click-Clack,I know laying your first clutch of eggs can be scary.I was scared as well during my first time."
The orange tool relaxed a little and asked,"Really?!"
Revvit smiled understandingly,"Yes I was but after it was over everything went back to normal."
Click-Clack sighed, still a little worried none the less.
The yellow tool tapped their bits together,"You are going to be fine,Click-Clack."
The orange tool was still nervous,"Ca-can you be with me when-when I do lay them?"
The yellow tool smiled,"If it will make your experience better, then yes.I can be with you." The orange tool finally felt relaxed about the situation.
Relieved that he wasn't going to do this alone.Another week passes and Revvit can feel he's coming to lay eggs soon. However he was determined to be there for Click-Clack.
Another trip to the ravine, all the tools were talking about eggs and how the couple next door to Waldo's old house was laying fertilized eggs."Oh,come one Waldo,it won't be so bad!" exclaimed Ace with a big smile.
Waldo kept a sturn look,"Yeah I know but still, having a bunch little kids running around ain't my style. The tortools are plenty enough."
Ace chuckled,"They do have a way of growing on you."
Waldo couldn't help but agree but he didn't say anything further.Revvit and Click-Clack glanced at one another. The yellow tool could see Click-Clack was getting more nervous with each passing second.Arriving at the ravine the tools all went their separate ways to lay eggs. The orange and yellow reptool stayed close together."This way Click-Clack.You can lay in my old home.It has not been used for a while and there is not many tools that live in that part of the ravine." Click-Clack stayed close to Revvit as he had not been in this part of the ravine before.
The two walked into a small hole in the rock face covered by dried leaves hanging from the top of the hole like a curtain.
Click-Clack was immediately scared of the dark but kept close as Revvit only went deeper into the cave.Little cracks on the outside let sunlight in that lit the room for the tools.Click-Clack welcomed the sunlight and felt his nervousness leave him as he looked around the room.
Eggs.
Clutches of eggs lay in patches around the room.
"You-you lay your eggs here?!"
Revvit smiled and nodded,"Yes,I do my laying here.It is away from everyone and is a safe place for me while I am vulnerable at this time."
Click-Clack took in the sights again. Each clutch laid was in its own neat pile off to the side.
Counting the clutches, Click-Clack saw twelve piles.
It's makes Revvit five years old having laid three times every year, skipping his first year of life. This would be Click-Clack's first time laying and seeing Revvit's collection brought confidence.
The yellow tool stopped in the center of the room and looked around,"All right, Click-Clack.It is up to you where you would like to lay." The orange tool looked around and started asking questions which Revvit gladly answered.
"How do you keep them from rotting?"
"I drain them once I am sure they are not fertilized."
"How do you know when they're fertilized?"
"After some time I will candle them.If nothing is inside I will drill a small hole in the bottom and drain them."
"Oh....Well,I haven't been with-uhm-you know so there's no chance my eggs will be fertilized."
"I always check them just to be sure.It is just something I tend to do."A few minutes later, Click-Clack found a spot he was comfortable with.Revvit laid beside him and let the younger tool rest his head on his shoulder."You are going to do fine Click-Clack."
The orange tool whined softly and glanced at Revvit,"It's starting to hurt."
Revvit smiled,"Yes,but only for a short time."
The orange tool whined again, feeling all his strength leave his body and focus it on his lower half."I don't like this short time.I wish it was shorter." Revvit leaned Click-Clack against him,"You are already doing a great job,Click-Clack."Ten minutes later and Click-Clack had added his first pile of eggs to Revvit's collection.
Two smaller eggs tucked in a corner all their own.Revvit and Click-Clack carefully built up some fresh leaves and small rocks around the eggs to keep them together.
The orange tool spun his bits proudly,"That wasn't so bad.Thank you,Revvit.I don't think I could have done this without you."
The yellow tool smiled,"You are welcome. Now let's go see how Ace and Waldo are doing."
