Faint shouts in the distance caught Mira-Jane's attention for a brief moment. She tuned her ears to only hear dead silence again.
Drama. Whatever.
She settled her head again in-between her knees and wiggled her arms that were wrapped around them. As she settled herself, a faint rustling of the rusted chains attached to her wrists filled the air. Mira took a big breath out through her nose.
Suddenly a blooding curling scream from a she-wolf outside caught her ears. Before she could process it a powerful bellowing roar followed it. Mira's head snapped up in an instant as she stifled her breath trying to hear what was going on. Suddenly the air was filled with the sound of chaos. Heavy footsteps, running, banging, screams, shouts, and booms filled her ears.
We're under attack.
She started to stand up and was startled by the sound of the dungeon door being smashed open. In the dim light Mira couldn't see much but she could hear cell doors being opened followed by prisoner's screams. The smell of fresh blood filled the musty air. She took a step back in a defensive posture, hunching her back, bending her knees and bracing herself for what may lie ahead.
Suddenly a man with blood splatters across his torso and face appeared in front of her cell. He was huge, shirtless, and held a steely gaze. He unlocked her cell door and advanced while looking her up and down.
She must have been a dirty sight after being down here for more than two weeks but she bared her teeth and stared back at him.
He was tall...really tall. His hair was short and messy. He had a stubble beard, a firm jawline, and a very muscley build. With one glance she knew she was no match for him.
"Hey we got a girl back here! What should I do with her?" The man shouted. He kept an emotionless face but a hint of disgust crept into his eyes.
Another guy popped into view and took one look at her.
"Take her and put her up with the others. "
Mira growled lowly and threatenly at him.
"Do that again and I will rip your jaw off of your head." The man said menacingly as he grabbed one of the chains on the ground that was linked to her right wrist and yanked it to get her to him.
Despite being only 5'4 Mira-Jane was no pushover and wasn't afraid to fight anyone anyday. She trained daily to be the best warrior/fighter she could be. However the fire in her didn't cloud her judgment in this situation. After being basically starved for two weeks she was in no condition to take on such a huge man before her. On top of that, escaping from the prison with other enemies known to be inside wasn't likely. She decided to wait until she could get outside and be able to assess the situation before plotting her escape.
When she got pulled closer to him she got a whiff of his scent...it wasn't a wolf's scent. It was musky, full of sweat, but completely unknown.
What on earth...He is no human, nor is he a wolf. Just what in the world is going on.
The man unlocked her chains with the jailer's key set, grabbed her arm, and roughly dragged her towards the entrance. The sunlight blinded her for a moment since it had been so long since she had seen it fully. Mira wasn't prepared for the devastation that was before her when her eyes adjusted.
Bodies. Everywhere. Black smoke furled into the sky where the main pack house was and the smell of blood was thick as the humidity. As she stumbled along she saw warrior's bodies strewn across the ground along with some women as well. Mira-Jane felt the world go silent as the shock began to settle in.
