Mira-Jane woke up the next morning to an empty bed much to her dismay. After all that happened, she really just wanted some comfort and security. She pulled the heavy fur blanket tighter around herself as her mind wandered. Will we be able to figure out what is going on with me? What if I black out and...hurt someone...or kill someone I know?
Stress and anxiety swelled in her chest and she rubbed her face with her hands. A knock on the door got her attention and the door opened before she had time to answer. Mary entered the bedroom with a cheery disposition.
"Good morning. I made some breakfast for you. The Grizzlies are busy hunting the rogue's trails so they won't be back until tonight. It will just be me and you for the day." Mary hopped up and sat on the edge of the bed next to Mira.
"What about your normal duties?"
"The Commander requested that I help you "recover" from the "injuries" you sustained during the attack. The whole village is on high alert so most of the warriors have returned to protect their families. I have been given a two day release from my work to stay with you." Mary smiled brightly as she spoke.
"Besides they are willing to give anything to the 'village hero' right now."
"The 'village hero'?" Mira asked hesitantly.
"Yupp. All the cubs went crying back to their mothers absolutely terrified that day. They ranted about the small she-wolf that took the nasty 'dogs' fearlessly head-on and even ripped one's throat out to save them. You have undoubtedly earned the respect of all the parents here."
"Good thing they left out the psycho blood thirsty part where I attacked their C." Mira mumbled as her shoulders slumped down. She opened her hands and looked at her palms. Knowing that the possibility of a blood crazy monster living inside of you that could attack your loved ones was devastating at the very least.
"Hey," Mary told a hold of one of Mira's hands. "Mira, if it weren't for you, all of those cubs could have died. That day you didn't just 'kill' six rogues. You saved eight cubs' lives... and to be honest the Commander looked completely unaffected by your attack. If anybody can handle you, it's him. For sure."
Mira nodded her head and tried to assure herself that Mary was right.
"Come, let's eat while the food is hot and fresh." Mary pulled the covers off of her and led her out into the kitchen,
The girls went to the small wooden table for four to eat. Mira watched Mary scurry around the kitchen to bring the food and tea.
"Mary, do you remember my friend Anna?" Mira leaned back in the chair.
Mary sat down and started to take food for herself. "Anna? The tall blonde beauty of our pack? Yes I remember her."
"Did you see her at the Royal's village? She was among the captured but after the distraction I caused I didn't see her." Mira slowly sipped on her tea and enjoyed the warmth if brought to her body.
Mary paused for a moment to think. "Well we were separated into two groups at the village but come to think of it, no I didn't see her."
"I heard that five of the captured managed to disappear in the woods during the invasion. I hope she was one of them."
"I hope those five are okay as well." Mary sighed as she spread her half boiled egg on a piece of toast before digging in. "You know Mira, despite everything, you really did everything you could to protect us...like a true Alpha."
Mira immediately shook her head as a response. "And look at me now...not even two months later and in love with the enemy." She whispered while pushing her potatoes and sausage around on her plate.
