Xander stood up from sitting on the rock from monitoring Mira. It's not that he was some possessive creep but more so very concerned if she shifted again and was completely unconscious. He headed in the opposite direction of the girls to the office building.
An unsettled feeling sat in his chest but so far everything seemed normal. He paused before entering the office and looked around. Everyone was going about their day as usual without a care in the world. Even the forest sounded peaceful and calm. The forest is really quiet...something seems off.
He turned to head towards the other side of the village where Mira was just to check things over when a dark ominous presence hit him. Xander didn't need to look to even know who it was. His head jerked back to the figure standing next to a big tree around 50 meters from him. Xerxes.
It had been ten years since he had last seen him. Xerxes had changed quite a bit physically but still seemed to have his arrogant entitled gaze. His black hair was now long and pulled back into a bun. He had new scars on him and his physic had increased a lot. He used to be taller but much skinnier than Xander. Now, He had a steel frame and thick muscles.
Njal raged within and Xander clenched his fists. Xerxes stood there staring at him boldly without a care in the world on his face. His demeanor and confidence made Xander tense and wonder what he had planned.
Suddenly a roar in the distance could be heard and then followed by a scream.
"ROGUES!!" He heard what sounded like Mary screaming. Had the girls not made it in the cabin?
Suddenly wolves started to tear through the village. Warriors started ripping into them while the women grabbed their children and ran for their dens.
Xerxes started to run and Xander bolted after him. He could not lose this opportunity of finally catching and killing him. After all the hell Xerxes had caused him, he could not fail in this moment. Xander ran through the cabins and turned to run along the edge of the village. Xerxes remained slightly ahead near the edge of the forest.
A wolf tried to attack Xander but he tore through easily in seconds and continued his pursuit. Xander started to run across the field and leave the village when a familiar unearthly scream sounded out.
His feet slid to an abrupt stop and his stomach sank. He could never forget who that scream belonged to. Mira...she shifted... shit shit shit.
Xerxes stopped running and stood at the edge of the forest. He turned to look at Xander with a wicked smirk as if he knew of the conflict going on in Xander's chest.
Xander felt frustration and stress on what to do. Xerxes hasn't been spotted for years and there he was a mere twenty meters from him. On the flip side, Mira could be possibly tearing into innocent people and sealing her fate to die. Should he risk it and hope all that meditation practice paid off and now she is conscious while shifted?
He took a step towards Xerxes and immediately felt a sick feeling in his gut. Xerxes will be out there to be caught another day...but Mira won't live through this if he guesses wrong. Feeling a deep anger and frustration, he forced himself to turn away from the person he has dreamed to kill for years and ran towards to the scream.
Xander found his anger getting replaced with worry as he raced through the village. Most of the wolves had been killed by now and their bodies were scattered about. He rounded a cabin to see Mira charge at a Grizzly who was holding onto Mary. She crashed into him, took him down, and bit into his collarbone. His hold onto Mary released and she scrambled to get away from the scene.
