His One and Only

Chapter 27

 

For a second he couldn't believe what he was seeing was real. She smiled gently upon seeing him which sunk it in that this was real.

Mira smiled softly when she saw Xander come in. She wanted to go hug him because he looked like he had a really rough day. However her body was completely exhausted and not wanting to work for some odd reason.

Her wish was granted because he went straight to her. His face had a mixture of relief and deep concern. To her surprise he got on his knees directly in front of her and held her face with one of his calloused hands.

"Are you okay?" He breathed out with deep emotion. His touch was very gentle almost as if he was afraid of breaking of her.

Mira nodded while searching his eyes and tried to figure out what was going on. "I'm okay...I think. I feel off but I don't know how to describe it." The emotion in his eyes compelled her to be completely honest with him.

"I-uh I'm confused. Did I miss something?" She started to feel uncomfortable seeing all three stare at her like she was the rarest thing on earth.

"Mira what is the last thing you remember?" Xander rested his hands on her waist while checking her over with his eyes. He wanted to wrap her in his arms and shower her with love and kisses but tried to refrain from doing so. He tried to convince himself to just breath in her scent and take her in that way.

Mira frowned as she tried to clear her foggy brain. It was such a simple question but the answer was struggling to come forward. "I uh...remember you chopping wood this afternoon. I brought a cup of water to you." She spoke softly but in complete focus.

"And what happened after that?" Xander spoke gently.

"I...I went to the field with Mary...we were going to play with all the cubs because the weather was so nice." Slowly her mind started to clear a bit about the events that had happened. "We were playing ball and..." Realization hit her like a ton of bricks when the flashbacks started. "Rogues...oh my god Mary!?" She looked around and started to panic.

Xander rubbed her sides soothingly to try and calm her. Mira started to tremble and breath irregularly.

"Mira, I'm here!" Mary rushed to her and grabbed her hand.

Mira look at Mary and her eyes filled with fear. "And the cubs???"

"The cubs are fine. Everyone is fine." Mary reassured her and rubbed her back with her free hand.

"What happened during the attack?" Xander didn't want to stress her out but he had to know if she remembered anything.

"I-I don't remember. I must have gotten knocked out. All I remember is trying to fight one of them." Mira frowned as she couldn't remember anything else.

Xander nodded slowly as her story confirmed his theory that she didn't remember killing those rogues and attacking him.

"Why do I feel like I am missing something? You guys are acting weird. What happened today?" Mira decided it was better to be straightforward to clear up the paranoia in her stomach that something was off.

Xander hesitated for a bit. "Mira, the rogue attack wasn't today. You have been unconscious for three days now."

Mira frowned. "What? Three days? That doesn't make sense." She looked down at herself to check her body. "I don't have any injuries. I feel fine."

"Yeah you are right, you are not injured... There is no way to put this to make it make sense but three days ago...you half shifted."

Mira looked at Xander with a blank face and blinked. "What are you talking about? I don't have a wolf so I can't shift, you know this Xander." Mira felt slightly upset because what he was saying didn't make sense.
