"

Mother, Jahna, Markus.

I apologize for having left so abruptly. You have all been more supportive than I could have asked for. But it's not my home. I've decided to continue my search to find where it is that I belong.

We'll meet again soon enough.

With regards,

Rex Masons
"

"Rex, are you ready?" Albaeon asks before dropping a strange bag before me. It seems to be vibrating and it makes a strange buzzing noise.

"Yeah, where do we start?" I ask as the letter turns into pollen before being carried away by the wind.

"Carry this bag, it will seal your ability to use any of your magical abilities. As we climb Gryphon's Peak, you must be on guard. Learning to survive with just your wit," Albaeon explains calmly.

I grab the bag and follow the Beowulf towards a strange entrance.

The Elders walk at us.

"Lord Albaeon, are you certain you wish to take your successor on the Trial of Kings before he has had any time to adjust to his lack of power?" the three-headed dragon asks.

Albaeon looks at me, with seemingly some doubt.

"Don't worry, I am not the kind of person to die just because I can no longer freeze entire cities shut," I respond while readjusting the backpack.

"We are heading off now, Elders. The Elven Path is under your command until one of us returns with the Gryphon's Fortune," Albaeon explains before walking through the entrance. He vanishes as he walks through.

I follow him and we arrive at the foot of a giant mountain, with at the top a nest.

"So, the Trial of Kings. What does it normally entail?" I ask as I look around in amazement.

"In normal tradition, the successor would race their predecessor to the top. The first to reach the top would be the ruler. But it would not be a fair competition if you would need to race me without access to your full abilities. Besides, there are threats inside the mountain that make for great tests of skill," Albaeon explains as he begins walking forward.

Albaeon has me going through the very basics at first. Getting my body into shape to handle the rest of the climb.

"And again!" Albaeon yells as I arrive from running up and down a few hundred steps.

This is what I signed up for, and undoubtedly I will get one step closer in my search for a place to call home.

"Move this bolder out of the way," Albaeon says as he conjures a massive boulder.

I try to push it, but it doesn't budge. It's heavy, unlike anything I've ever felt before. As if you're a mouse trying to lift a house.

"What is the matter, Rex? Are you unable to do it?" Albaeon asks curiously.

I keep trying, but there's no movement in the boulder at all. Eventually, my muscles give out after giving it a go for over 4 hours.

"So, there's your limit," Albaeon comments calmly.

"I just need to get stronger..." I say exhaustedly.

Albaeon walks up to the boulder and gently taps it with his paw causing it to crack.

"Don't seek power. You must find solutions. Those that seek will never find what they want. A king cannot enforce his will with brute force, it must be done delicately," he explains calmly
