We had water at home, running through the pipes but there is just something special about going to the river on laundry day, or to even get my hair washed. Mama always said I shouldn't go alone but I couldn't help it, it was close to home anyways.

After mama's second stroke, it was clear that something was wrong. The first happened leaving her mouth slant and an issue with talking or moving around much. She got better after two months and went back to her old self as if it never happened. The next one happend after church service when we were leaving out of the church yard and all the members rushed to help. Some prayed, others cried and I fainted.

Mama fainted but I was in shock and didn't realize she was still breathing a bit. Unfortunately, she lost the ability to move. She couldn't move her arms or legs and was just laying like an invalid. She lost the ability to talk too and all she does were eye movements.

Since then, I barely left home and with the amount of persons visiting her I sticked around. I knew very little and the other majority was either the people from her past who knew her well.

They brought gifts, groceries and lots of love for her. I was just happy that due to her hard work and kindness that people remembered her. Sister Patsy was one of them, she was a little younger than Mama but the old woman actually sent her to school back in the day to study nursing. Now sister Patsy came to help, an as the first time she came, the second time was also to nurse her back to health.

The reason for the strokes are all caused by the food she eats. Mama had a thing for calloos and spinach at first as she would eat a lot. The next was beetroot, now she couldn't eat both and we didn't allow her to eat the same thing more than twice a month for precaution sake.

Returning from the river, I had to take my slippers off since it was wet and I almost slid out of it.

It was Saturday so I didn't expect any visitors at this time so I was a bit curious at who was coming at such hours. Everyone knew Mama had a thing for timing, after five meant family time or an emergency, this was someone who knew her closely or didn't at all.

To my surprise it slowed down at my feet and I got to speak with the handsome man behind the wheels. Since the jeep was a level, I could only see his face and shoulders but boy, were they thick with muscles.

His cool caramelized dark skin gave an orange glow as the afternoon sun hits it. His waves were out and his line up was neat to the 'T', just as his facial hair. I didn't see most men with such long and we'll groomed facial hair but his own took the cake.

It was as dark and thick where no patch is found. His thick brows were groomed too, as he made two perfectly symmetrically horizontal lines in his right brow. His light brown eyes was appealing as they were so clear. But damnit, his lips was made for him as it was thick and dark pink in colour, shining a bit as he probably had an habit of licking them as he was doing when I returned his greeting.

Other wise from his vehicle, the next turn off was his pierced ears and the gold chain outside his shirt.

Overall, he was nice and it puts a smile on my face as he drove off. He was definitely a stranger, coming here for the first time as we were the last persons on the hill in our lane so that was where he went. The gate was already opened and he drove though as I followed. He got out as I was moving towards the backyard when he called out to me.

"Miss?"

Turning, I looked over my shoulder at him worriedly. "Yes?"

"Is someone in?" He asked and I smile.
