'Ow!" You awoke suddenly to feel your hair being pulled "what, hey stop!"

Your eyes eventually opened to see the fairy who was jolting you awake, giggling to flash its sharp pearl teeth. Sitting up, you grabbed your pocket watch to see the time 7.30. groaning, you sat up and as soon as you did the fairy became satisfied and left the room through the window which it heaved open before flying out.

The floor was cold as you walked across it with your bare feet, wondering towards the window, you pulled the curtains back to let in a bit more sunlight as your candles had been extinguished. Your eyes locked up to the window across from you, no one was there and the curtains were drawn but your eyes still caressed its frame, remembering what you saw last night. You wondered who the woman could be and why she had seemed to be hanging around when you arrived. Something about seeing her made your skin tingle, you had only seen her silhouette across what had to be 30 metres give or take and you had somehow managed to conjure full body shivers.

Yawning, you peeled urself away from the window and found a fresh pot of tea laying on your dresser, steaming hot and a fairy next to it which poured you a cup before disappearing again. 'Hm' you thought 'fairies seem nicer when you're a teacher, then again it did just almost pull my hair out this morning..'

Shrugging, you took a sip of tea, it was just at the right temperature, steaming hot so that it was barely drinkable, just how you liked it. You placed the teacup back down in order to begin getting dressed.

You decided to put on one of your favourite dresses, although to confess you loved all of your clothes and gained a large sense of achievement any time you finished sewing a new skirt or dress. Opening your wardrobe you pulled out your chemise, corset, stockings, corset cover and today just 2 lace petticoats. Then finally you put on your dress which you had taken the pattern for from a sewing magazine. The dress was a wrapper dress, meaning that it was appropriate to wear without a corset but today was your first impression and you actually liked the stability that wearing your corsets gave you so you put your corset on, making sure to tie the dress a little tighter so it fit flatteringly over your body without any wrinkling.

The dress had long draping sleeves and a skirt that was accented with a lace frill at the bottom, the fabric was a pale green and black pinstripe and you accented it with a pair of white crochet lace gloves, a black velvet belt and your favourite gold cameo brooch. You had put your boots on before your corset to make things easier and they were black with buttons going up the side. Your curly brown hair was an untameable beast and so you just put half of it up hoping that it looked more like romantic and carefree than insane woman from the forest.

You felt the back of your shoulder tingle and stopped what you were doing, your mind was begging you to look out of the window again, but why? Surely it couldn't be her that was attracting you, the mystery woman whom you only knew two things about; that she had red hair and was evil.

'God, evil Y/N! She's evil!' You thought for the first time 'What the strange woman, whoever she is, is doing, is of no consequence to you. I mean you have literally never met her you have no idea what her name is, stop being a creep.'

Ok one last snoop

You looked over your shoulder at first but then you finally turned around and walked towards the window. Putting both your hands on the windowsill you peered out.

Two eyes pierced through the clear air between your windows right into yours. Fuck, she was stood there again, just staring. You hurried away from the window and into the corner.

'God she will think I am a creep!' Your hand flew to your chest

'Wait... she was staring at my window first, right?' You rolled your eyes 'I need to forget about it. And I really need to stop talking to myself'

You had some final time to kill before your first meeting and so when you had drained the last drop of tea from the kettle you pulled on your cloak to explore the school. The smell of old paper and roses seemed to be the school's perfume, you breathed it in and it lingered in your nose revoking nostalgic senses but also traumatic ones, you had good years at this school. You had really bad ones too; for the first year you barely talked to anyone at all, unless a teacher asked you a question, you thought you didn't mind being payed no attention, you felt out of place there but, then again you always had felt out of place your whole life. Growing up non magical or being a 'reader' as they called it meant you were destined for a life of being an outcast. No matter what world you were in. Non magical people didn't want you because 'witches are the devil' and magical people simply just spat out the name 'reader; and flashed you a scornful look.

Then second year happened and you were partnered with Artemis in Beautification. Artemis was the school for good's ,'it' girl; every prince wanted her -no matter how unrequited their interests may have been-. Every princess loathed her long auburn hair that shined and fell perfectly, no matter if she had just been pushed to the floor by an angry troll or swept away by the wind and every magical person in existence knew who she was as, her mother was Aurora.
You two became friends rather quickly, she soon picked you over her other fake friends and well, two opposites make a perfect match, a shy, timid unrefined girl from the forest and a strong beautiful princess with a legend for a mother. People knew you as a brand, wherever one of you were the other was. Even if you weren't together, you were each asked about the other person as if your brains were telepathically connected.

That was a while ago now, and you both were beginning to go your separate ways, hers was a destiny of rule and a prince. Yours was, well, a teacher? you liked to dream that you would find someone someday, that this would be temporary and that you could trade it to live in a cottage and own like, chickens and a lot of cats. You never wanted a prince, you wanted women and Artemis always knew that and loved you for it, you were the sister she never had and she was yours. But wherever you went heartbreak seemed to soon follow and so the simple life didn't seem so simple to get to.

Walking down the corridors, you traced your hand along the sculpted walls like a child exploring some big exiting house. yes, all of it was so familiar. Now you knew exactly where you were and you dropped your hand from the wall. In front of you was a massive door, a blush pink with golden scroll designs. Reaching out a hand you grabbed the thick gold handle and shifted your weight to force it open. How did they expect dainty little princesses to open doors the weight of steel. Whatever, you would do anything to get into that room.

The door swung open and you felt the air in your face, like you were opening s0me kind of portal, a portal to worlds and knowledge.

The library stood in front of you in all of its glory, from your view you could only see half of it but you could at least see thousands of books from where you were stood, thousands of escapes. You walked in without another thought, your long skirt swishing against the cold marble floor but as you saw more of the room you saw a person sat staring the opposite way out of the window.

She had red hair.

Fuck

A/n- I'm so in love with lady lesso omg writing this is like writing out my deepest dreams lolololol. Anyway it's been ages since I read the books, especially the first one so if I get something a little wrong I apologise. I really want to reread them but being a literature student means I get little time to actually read what I want 😭 anyway if you liked this chapter feel free to vote. 💚💚💚💚 - tallulah <3
