Chapter 10 - Friendship

Ethar asked me once, ''If you don't feel like smiling, why do you smile?''

Rimti laughed and said,"Really? I thought he wouldn’t care, hehe.''

"You are saying this, I never even thought that anyone would notice my smile."

''Why? Do you think you are an expert that no one will understand  your fake smile? But see I caught you..''

"You are saying this now. But before Ethar no one said that to me nor anyone caught it."

''Umm..I've heard that western children are quite mature, I think it's the same in Ethar's case. And no one caught your smile before because no one focused on your smile, Ethar did. That's why he got it.''

After hearing what Rimti said, I realised that it was true. Ethar's words were really mature.But the fact that he focused on my smile, never came to my mind.

''What happened then?'' Rimti asked in a curious voice.

"What else! I tried to tell him that he was mistaken. But he didn’t believe my words."

I was having different kinds of emotions when Ethar told me about my smile. For the first time someone told me about that so I was happy, sad and also scared thinking if he will tell this to others. But he didn’t tell anyone. He never even asked me why I faked my smile. Just said that if I didn’t like smiling then why I smiled. Ethar doesn’t talk much, but it feels like I can share everything with him. He will understand everything I say. He didn’t ask me but I told him the reason behind my fake smile. That's how much he earned my trust.

'Then?''

"Then I don't know how we became friends. Even though my habit didn't change."

''Hmm. I know that. And I think Ethar doesn’t even care about it.''

"He never forbade me to react like this. Just told me that I don't need to act like  a good boy in front of him."

"Act like a good boy…..that means you are not a good boy?"

I didn't know how to answer her. ''I think I'm not.''

''I don't think so. Whatever, Ethar is a really good friend. And yeah..you don't have to carry your 'good boy' act in front of me. It irritates me a lot.''

"I can't. It has become my habit."

Rimti frowned and said,''We'll see that.'' she stood up saying that. ''It's late.''

I noticed that it was almost dark. It was not safe for a girl to stay out this late."Won't you get scolded at home?"

''No one is at home. I'll stay with Sujita tonight.''

"Ohh"

''I saw you while going to her house. You were murmuring something so I became curious and came to hear you.''

I stared at her and said,"It's not good to eavesdrop."

''Yeah yeah. I know. I Just wanted to see your real self.''

I said Mockingly, "Yeah right, as if you did a great deed."

''Whatever. Anyways remember I told you that there is a reason why I didn't give you personal space today.''

''It's simple. You don't know what it means."

''Noo I know. The reason was that you seemed to be under pressure and looked stressed. So the best way to release stress is to talk. So I did you a favour. You don't need to say thanks. You're welcome.'' She said with a bright smile.

"You really are a weird girl." I started walking saying that. I heard her saying 'bye'. I really talked a lot today. now I feel awkward.
