Chapter 11 - Cat

Sujita's point of view:

I was lying on my bed and thinking about today, "I've never seen Ethar smile. He and Ullash are actually really good friends.."

''Sujita!''

I was surprised..I turned around and saw Rimti standing.

"You? Weren't you at your grandma's home? Is your grandfather okay?"

''Hmm. He's fine. Still my parents decided to stay there tonight. A lot of my relatives are also staying there as their homes are far.So I told my mother that I will stay with you tonight.''

I became excited after hearing that,"It's gonna be so fun!"

Mom came with some snacks and said,''Rimti, did you have any trouble coming here? Your mother informed me that you had left a long time ago.''

Rimti smiled and said,''Aunty actually I met one of my friends so I was talking with him and didn’t realise the time.''

''Oh. Thank god. I was worried for you.''

I asked mom,"Why didn't you tell me that Rimti was coming?"

She looked away and said,''I forgot''

She left saying that. What does she mean by she forgot. I was the only one who didn’t know about Rimti's arrival. 

''Oi, are you angry with aunty?''

"Nope. I don't have that much free time. Who did you meet by the way?"

Rimti smiled showing her teeth and said,''Ullash''

"Huh? U..Ullash?"

''Hmm. I saw him sitting on the ground bench while coming. Poor guy was tired of his extra classes. So under pressure he was murmuring something.''

"Murmuring? Then?"

Rimti took a biscuit and said, 'The way he behaves it's all fake. He just acts like an ideal boy. This acting of ideal boy has turned into his habit.''

I was shocked to hear that. I knew something was wrong with his smile but his faking everything was shocking to me.

''But the good thing is that he and Ethar are real friends. Ethar knows everything about him.''

"He told you?"

Rimti smiled and said,''I made him speak.''

I laughed and said, "Normally you don't push anyone to speak. But when you do, you make that person spill everything."

She said while eating,''Yeah. That's right.''

"So what else did he say?"

Rimti told everything about their conversation . I didn’t know that Ethar used to live abroad. After she said everything I asked her, "You never talked to Ullash before. How come you had such a long conversation with him today?"

''Hmm. I never liked his fake behaviour. It feels really annoying. I really wished to catch his real face someday. I did today, it feels great!''

This girl is like this Only. What else can I say? We spent that night gossiping. We didn’t have college the next day, so we had to go to coaching. But Rimti had to go to her grandma's house so I had to go alone again. After coaching, I was returning home when I saw Nilima playing in the field. She saw me and ran towards me.

''Suji apu, How are you?''

"I'm good. How are you?"

'I'm also good.Where  is vaiya?'

"I don't know. I didn’t see him today.'

''Oh'' She thought for a while and said bye to her friends.''Let's go. I'll go with you today. It’s already late.''

I smiled and said," Okay. Let's go."

We were happily talking and walking home when we heard a sound,''Meow''

''Apu, did you hear? Isn't it a cat?''

"Hmm"

Again, ''Meow'',  me and Nilima looked at each other and started looking for the cat. We saw an injured cat beside the bush. It had some wounds on its leg. The cat was white colour with some brown stripes. It looked healthy but it's eyes were mesmerising. 

''Apu. See it’s hurt.'

"Hmm. I saw."

''Don't you have a first aid kit?''

"Oh yeah. I remember."

I somehow bandaged its leg.

''Kitty, is it feeling better now?''

I smiled at Nilima's words. It was so sweet.

''Apu what do we do now? Should we leave it here?''

"What to do? I can't take it with me. My mom is allergic to cat fur."

She thought for a while and said,

''Okay then. I'll take it with me.''
