New Year's Eve

There was a New Year's Eve event at a club in St Louis tonight, and everyone was getting ready for it. It was snowing, but it didn't stop us from going. Curtis, Lucas and I were feeling the weight of Evan, Elliot and Dana leaving. Curtis was at Evan's condo almost everyday, giving us little to no time alone together. Evan told me he didn't know how to divide his attention, and to get the point across to Curtis. Curtis was his best friend, and at the moment he had no intentions of moving across to LA with us.

I booked my plane ticket with Evan, to be with him for a few days in LA before the college semester started. After that, it dawned on me that I wouldn't see him for months, especially with the television series he was going to begin filming.

"Evan? Come here I need you to zip up my dress," I looked behind me at Evan who was sipping on a beer and scrolling through his phone. He got up from his seat on the edge of his bed and made his way over to me.

"Sure babe," he replied, handing me over his beer as he zipped up my dress. He left a kiss on my shoulder before it was covered by the back of my dress.

"Let's go Ubers here," Elliot wizzed passed us and out the door of Evan's condo. I grabbed my purse from the edge of the bed and Evan draped my faux fur coat over my shoulders.

"I wonder how many foxes died for that thing," Evan joked, as we left his condo and followed the others downstairs.

"None Ev it's not real fur," I replied with a laugh. Evan grabbed onto my hand and held it in his.

"You look so hot," he complimented me with a cheesy smile.

"You look super sexy," I complimented back, scanning over his black jeans, black turtle neck and his Sherpa-lined denim jacket. His hair was gelled and styled.

"Why thank you malady," He brought my hand up to his lips.

We'd made it to the club, and were waiting outside in the long line to get inside. It seemed as though the whole of St Louis chose to be here tonight. I was shaking from the cold, and didn't want my hair to get wet from the snow. Evan towered over me with his jacket above my head, sacrificing himself for my hair. That was just the kind of person he was, selfless.

Once we got inside, Dana and Elliot disappeared to the bar to get us all drinks. We stood around a tall bar table, and Evan started bobbing to the club music.

"Nice dance moves idiot," I teased, causing Evan to nudge me with a smile.

"Come here gorgeous," Evan opened his arms and I went over to him, wrapping my arms around his waist.

"Let me take your coat to the cloak room," he offered, sliding the coat off my shoulders. I tilted my head back and offered my mouth for a kiss, which he obliged to before heading back through the crowd to the cloak room.

"You guys make me wanna puke," Lucas said, sticking two fingers into his mouth like he was about to make himself throw up. I rolled my eyes at him and Curtis laughed in agreement.

Dana and Elliot returned with the drinks on a metal tray, and handed me two vodka lime sodas, one for me and one for Evan. I stood sipping my drink, trying to make out the conversation from across the bar table. The music was loud in my ears, and it was hard to hear everyone talking.

Moments passed before I started to wonder where Evan was. Lucas raised his eyebrows at me, as if he was wondering the same thing.

"Where'd he go? Shouldn't he be back now?" Lucas asked, and I shrugged my shoulders.

"I'll text him," I said, reaching into my shoulder bag and retrieving my phone.

I waited for a reply, but it didn't come for another 5 minutes.

"I'm gonna go try find him, take care of our drinks," I told the group, the ice had already melted in Evan's drink.

I pushed through the crowd, trying to look over people's shoulders for Evan. Call me cliche, but it was 11.45 and I didn't want to miss our first new years kiss. It was also a suspiciously long time to hand my coat in.

I saw a head of dark curls with their back turned just outside the venue, talking to someone. It must've been Evan, but, he looked angry, throwing his hands around like he was in an argument. As I got closer, I realised it was him, face to face with none other than his ex girlfriend, Emma.

I looked down at my phone, and by now it was 11.50. They were still far from me, and there was mounds of people between us. I watched as they continued to fight, Emma leaned towards Evan and trying to grab onto his hand. He shook her off, as security walked over to the commotion.

I watched as Evan waved off security, and they seemed to think it was okay because they retreated. I was close enough now to see Emma's eyes shoot up over Evan's shoulder and make eye contact with me. I knew she recognised me, because she smiled almost menacingly before grabbing onto Evan's face with both hands and pulling him in for a kiss.

That was enough for me to pick up my pace and head outside into the cold.

"What the fuck is going on?" As I reached the pair, Evan turned to face me, his eyes wide.

"Why don't you tell her Evan?" Emma threatened, "or should I?"

I looked at Evan in confusion, my heart sinking to the bottom of my chest. I almost just didn't want to deal with this right now and go inside and forget anything happened.

Evan looked at me sadly, his eyes red. He reached out to me and held onto my cold hand with his. He pulled me into his chest and hugged me closely. It was strange, like the type of hug you give someone when you're never going to see them again.

"Evan? We're both waiting," Emma taunted, I could see her with her arms crossed over her chest from over Evan's shoulder.

Evan pulled away and sniffled before sighing.

"Emma is pregnant," he said, blankly. I shook my head as if to say okay and? But Emma nudged him as if there was more to it.

"She thinks the baby is mine."

I hadn't noticed the crowd of people counting down to midnight, but almost as if it was for this purpose, midnight struck as Evan revealed that he may be the father of his ex girlfriend's child.
