[Cat's POV]Anthony had arranged for Enzo's favourite Masarati to be waiting at the airport. Enzo was pleased about that... at least one of us does what he wants, I guess.
He drives us home, his black sunglasses hiding his eyes and his thoughts. He hasn't said much for the first hour of the ride.
Now that we are back in the county, I'm anxious to get home. I want to hug Stef. I want to sleep in our own bed. I want to sit outside by my garden. I want to check in with Seb and Ace.
But none of that matches Enzo's plans.
"When we get there, I want to have a meeting to decide how to proceed," he says suddenly.
"With what?" I don't understand.
"With how to win against Tony."
I look at him, but he continues looking at the road with a straight face.
"There is no war yet, Enzo. Don't start one."
"You started one," he snaps and I can't help but recoil in my seat against the window.
"The minute you forbade him from me at the club, you started one," I remind him. "Even before. Don't put that on me."
"You're right," he says. "But who kept the peace for three whole years?"
"Both of us," I force out through my teeth.
"And who killed his friend on his land?" He asks with a tone that makes me want to punch his smug face.
"It wasn't on his land. That was where he was dumped. For the record." I huff and look out the window. "We are going in circles again. The point is, we don't have a war until there is one."
"You don't understand what you are dealing with, Cat. Nothing will stop him now. You know he already suspects us of the other thing."
My eyes snap closed as my chest tightens. I know he doesn't use that card to hurt me, he's making a good point logically, but it hurts all the same.
"I'm going to call in David and the others," Enzo says, his tone a hair softer than before. "You should to the same with the ones you trust."
My eyes open as something eats at the pit of my stomach. I look over to him.
"Enzo, I have a bad feeling about this. Please, don't engage with Tony until we know he knows it was me."
His fingers grip the wheel tighter. "He knows, Cat."
"We need proof. We need to know what he is planning first."
"That's not the way it is done. Please, just listen to me on this."
I shake my head and look forward. "I am listening, I just don't agree."
We sit in silence for a few minutes. I watch the mile markers pass by as the feeling in my stomach grows.
My arm smacks against the door as the car swerves off the road.
"Enzo!" I yell, grabbing on to anything I can to steady myself. The car slows to a stop. "Jesus!"
My eyes are wide as I turn to him, but he's already staring at me.
"You hit first, you show strength," he says. "You set the tone for who will win."
"Great, then I already did that," I counter.
"No, something big. Deadly."
"Bigger than Costra?"
