Logan

I hate her dad. I was clenching the steering wheel so hard my knuckles turned white. I kept looking in the mirrors back at Athena in the backseat. She looked frozen and numb.

I could tell that Michal Renn was drunk when he approached her on the beach, he didn't try to hide it either. I've never heard him speak to her like that before, I've never really heard him speak to her at all but I never thought it would be like that.

I drove to Aiden's house to drop him off. He lived in a little house, more of a shack, right on the sea front. Both of his parents weren't really in the picture, his mum left when he was young, too young for him to remember her well. I didn't know much about his dad, he used to be this big successful surfer but fell of the face of the earth.

"Hey Lo can you help me pulling my board inside." Aiden said once we pulled up in his drive way. I looked at him confused considering he definitely did not need help doing that but nodded and followed him out of the car.

"I'll be right back" I said gently to Athena who just nodded in my direction. I followed Aiden round the side of his house to the back porch and watched him push the door open.

I sat down on the sofa and leaned my elbows against my knees, "Logan you need to talk to her about her dad" he said to me suddenly.

I looked up at him with a frown. "I've seen this before ok, her dads a little shit I can tell you that" he mumbled.

"He's going through a lot loosing his wife like that" I said, I wasn't trying to defend him but I did feel a little sorry for the man, I didn't want to jump to any conclusions but I did agree with Aiden he's clearly not doing well in he's drunk during the day and shouting at his daughter.

"Dude are you blind! Seriously wake the fuck up he isn't a saint" Aiden yelled becoming suddenly erratic throwing his hands around.

I stood up stiffly staring at him. He ran his hand through his hair tugging at the roots, "I'm sorry for shouting, but seriously Logan he's a bad man I don't want him to hurt her. She doesn't deserve that." He said trying to calm himself down.

"Neither do you" I said to him and he stilled. I have met his dad in passing on a few occasions he was nothing but a washed up ex athlete who blames his problems on other people and can't take responsibility for his actions.

Aiden looked at me stunned for a second with his jaw clenched. His eye filled with tears as he evidently tried to hold them in. He cleared his throat, "yeah well fathers are shit right" he said with a laugh trying to play it off.

"Yeah they are" I said sighing, "you know you can stay at mine whenever you need right?" I said to him. I knew he was alone here 90% of the time, he's been supporting himself since he was at least nine. A nine year old had to wash peoples cars, do paper rounds and any odd jobs he could find just too eat.

"That spot is currently vacated" he said now smirking at me, wiping his eyes. I laughed a little walking up to him and embracing him I'm a tight hug.

"Thanks" Aiden says his voice breaking at he squeezes me back. I nodded as he released me clearing his throat and wiping his eyes again trying to hide his feelings.
