I was just trying to have a peaceful lunch with no one trying to ruin it.
I looked across from me and Caitlyn was long gone.
With her backpack, so she wasn't coming back.
"What's the reason Emerson? Don't want to tell in front of the whole crowd?"
"Why Carson." The name sounded disgusting when it came out of my mouth, and it was.
"You want me to embarrass you in front of the whole crowd?"
There was some 'ooh's and 'aah's coming from the people behind me. Do they not have to go to class?
I probably have to go to though.
Noah's eyes dropped but he also had a hint of curiosity in them. "What could that be?"
"So you really want me to say it?" I said.
He was unsure, but just to try and keep the fact that he was not afraid going, he nodded his head. Brave choice.
"Yes, Emerson." I nodded my head. "Okay."
"You got that girl over there," I pointed towards a girl sitting in the corner with her friend. His mouth was wide open.
"pregnant."
"And you said you wouldn't take care of the baby."
"H-how did you-"
I looked back at the girl sitting in the back..
The brunette had tears in her eyes and I felt bad for bringing it up. But he insisted.
"And you were even thinking about killing her, and the baby."
His mouth was just an inch above the red concrete, representing the school colors. The brunette was practically sobbing at this point.
Her hands were covering her head and her friend was trying to comfort her.
"H-how did you-"
"I heard it while you were pretending to be on a call with your mom.
You never talked to her for long because you found her voice annoying but that day you were talking to them for a whole 15 minutes. Not. Your mom."
"Then you started dating me. Just to break her heart and say you have moved on."
He clearly looked defeated.
"Did you ever think of what she could be going through?"
He looked at me with complete disgust in his face, and he didn't even tried to hide it.
His eyes were piercing through my soul, and in a way I felt uncomfortable. "That's why-" He couldn't look me in the eye anymore.
"We should take this insid-"
"No! You insisted we stay out here in front of your audience, and that is what we are going to do. I was trying to keep your respect earlier."
I stared back at the girl and just looking at her made me cry. It's unfair.
"You are a dad for god's sake." I said, "Then act like one. And for the right person who needs you as a dad."
------
As the bell finally rang I stepped out of the classroom and walked to my locker to collect my final things. I saw the girl from earlier at her locker too. I walked over to her and tapped her shoulder. "He-"
It took her a minute to recognize who I was. "You-"
She had a tear drop already forming in her eyes.
"How could you?" She said. "And why? Why did you have to say it in front of everybody?"
"He s-" She had tears in her eyes. There was a lot of that lately.
She cut me off again and wrapped her arms around me, burying her head in my neck. I heard her sobbing and I felt bad for her once again.
The pain she must be going through.
I had never experienced it so I wouldn't know exactly myself.
But because I didn't know, I felt bad for the poor girl even more than usual.
"It'll be okay. It's fine."
I personally would never cry into a random strangers shoulder. But then she probably was going through so much, she would cry in anyone's shoulder.
I patted her back with my hand. And she kept sobbing until her eyes were dry and there was no water left in them. "It's fine."
