Let's catch up on Thursday
If it's not too soon to talk
'Cause I've been bored of all the silent treatment
Ever since you walked
Now, all I do is wait for you
And all I do is wait for you, mm
I threw a party for my twentieth
Invited half the town
I know it's so unlike me
But on the off-chance, you'd come around?
All I do is root for you
'Cause all I do is root for you
And I was kinda hoping
You were kind of broken too
How on earth, how on earth do you hold it together?
Doesn't it mess you up a bit?
Doesn't it hurt?
Let it burn, this is hell on earth and you're enjoying the weather
One for the team, I'll take the hit, do your worst
La-da-die, da-da-die
La-da-die, da-da-die
Are you free this Thursday?
We've got so much left unsaid
Would you send more cryptic messages?
Why would we waste our breath?
When all I do is yearn for you
And all I do is yearn for you, mm
I thought maybe if I dyed my hair
I'd feel more independent
But it's nothing like the picture on the box
Now I regret it
Tearing off the shower curtain
I've only made it worse
And now all I do is curse for you
And I was kinda hoping
You were kind of lonely too
How on earth, how on earth do you hold it together?
Doesn't it mess you up a bit?
Doesn't it hurt?
Let it burn, this is hell on earth and you're enjoying the weather
One for the team, I'll take the hit, do your worst
La-da-die, da-da-die
La-da-die, da-da-die
How on earth
And the band played that song you remember
It was Earth, Wind and Fire, 'September'
Mm-mm-mm-mm-mm
Mm-mm-mm-mm-mm
How on earth, how on earth do you hold it together?
Doesn't it mess you up a bit?
Doesn't it hurt?
Let it burn, this is hell on earth and you're enjoying the weather
One for the team, I'll take the hit, do your worst
La-da-die, da-da-die
La-da-die, da-da-die
La-da-die, da-da-die
La-da-die, da-da-die
La-da-die, da-da-die
La-da-die, da-da-die
La-da-die, da-da-die
La-da-die, da-da-die

two years after

in los angeles, matt was listening to brooke's new song. he still found himself looking up the girl, listening to every song she released. maybe it was because he knew they were about him, maybe it was pure curiosity. whatever the cause, he couldn't pull himself away from it.

matt and rylee had ended things months ago, simply because matt wasn't ready for anything again. although brooke and him had ended nearly two years ago, he couldn't imagine himself ever truly loving someone again. he was afraid of being hurt again, but more importantly, he was afraid of loving someone more than he loved brooke. matt was convinced it wasn't possible, but deep down he was terrified of actually moving on for good, and he knew if he let himself feel for another, he would.

the triplets had moved to los angeles a month ago. they had reached three million subscribers on youtube, and had more and more opportunities opening up for them. chris and nick had gone to see brooke, who was beyond ecstatic that they had moved and she would see them more. matt couldn't bring himself to see her, no matter how many times his brothers asked him to.

brooke's birthday had come and gone, and she had invited the three. only chris and nick attended, which upset brooke greatly, although she pretended it didn't. brooke wasn't the party type, so when she threw a party for her twentieth birthday, she only did it for the chance that matt would show. she didn't think he would blow off her birthday, but then again she didn't know matt like she used to. she invited nearly everyone matt was friends with, along with half the town, hoping he would show.

two weeks later, when matt's phone buzzed, he checked it, not thinking anything. when the name brooke taylor appeared on his screen, he didn't know what to do.

Brooke Taylor:
are you free this thursday?
we've got so much left unsaid
if so, meet me at the cafe by your place @ 2
hope you make it.

matt just stared at the text, before turning his phone off.

not far away, brooke found herself staring at the read on her phone. all she could do was hope that matt was missing her even slightly, even as a friend, and that he would show.

the next few days went by slowly. matt found himself unsure of what to do, he wanted to see brooke and talk to her, but at the same time, he didn't. when thursday came, brooke arrived at the small cafe at 1:50. she knew if matt was going to show he would be early, or at least right on time.

when ten minutes passed, matt still hadn't shown. it was officially two o'clock and every time the door opened brooke looked up eagerly, only to be disappointed each time.

at two thirty, brooke was still sitting at a table alone.

once the clock hit three, she knew he wasn't coming.

the girl was waiting for him for over an hour, only to be let down. part of her wanted to stay put, thinking he might still show. the realistic part of her though knew he wasn't. taking a deep breath, brooke stood up, leaving the cafe and her hopes of anything happening with matt again behind.

sitting at home, matt felt bad knowing brooke was right down the street waiting for him to show. he had gotten dressed, planned out what to say, but just as he walked outside, he turned around. matt simply couldn't do it no matter how much he wanted to.

brooke had left him, she had given up on them for herself, and although he was proud of her success, he found himself angry at her for choosing it over him. he was holding a grudge, one he simply couldn't let go.
