This is the last song I'll write about you
I need to move on, I think you do too
You were all that I wanted
You know that you still are
'Cause I've been alright, yeah, but you showed me better
I know that we're changing
But nothing feels different
I'm breaking the silence to say
If in ten years time
I'm still on your mind
Would you call and
Say you want this?
No matter where we are
You still have my heart
'Cause I locked it
And I promise
You're the locksmith
We said forever and said it too soon (said it too soon)
At least now I know, nobody feels like you do (nobody feels like you do)
You were all that I wanted
You know that you still are
I'm breaking the silence to say
If in ten years time
I'm still on your mind
Would you call and
Say you want this?
No matter where we are
You still have my heart
'Cause I locked it
And I promise
You're the locksmith
You're the one that I can see me growing old with
Build a house I see it now you plant me roses
And everything we dreamed about came into focus
Here's to hopin'
If in ten years time
I'm still on your mind
Could you call and
Say you want this?
No matter where we are
You still have my heart
'Cause I locked it
And I promise
You're the locksmith

three years and one month after

coming to the realization that her and matt were over for good was something that brooke needed to move on. matt never reached out since he blew her off at the cafe all those months ago, and brooke was finally accepting it.

therefore, when brooke pulled out her notebook one night, she knew it would be the last song she'd write about matt. from here on out, her songs would be about finding new and moving on. it was time for her to date again, for she was twenty-one and hadn't dated anyone since she was eighteen. brooke grew up without matt beside her. they both grew up.

deep down she knew her lyrics upset matt. she felt bad, in a way, for dragging it on for so long and making it even harder for him to move on. how could he? any girl he dated would hear brooke's songs and immediately run away. matt didn't deserve that, he never deserved any songs written about him. for they made brooke's career, they hurt the one she loved the most.

she knew they had both changed in more ways than imaginable, but to her, it felt like nothing was different. she still loved matt and she still missed boston. the girl felt like the same eighteen year old who drove away in the middle of the night.

they said forever too soon. forever is a long time, and at that young age, nobody can guarantee anything. brooke didn't know she was going to be a famous singer, matt didn't know he would be a famous youtuber. they didn't see anything coming in between them, and that's just what happened.

matt was the one she saw herself growing old with all those years ago. after everything that happened, he still was. she saw him planting roses outside, simply because roses were her favorite flower.

her heart was locked. she would try to find someone else, but she knew matt was the locksmith.

her final question to him was if in ten years time and she was still on his mind, would he call her and say he wanted this?
