Scar screamed, rubbing toward his friend and quickly scooping him up before turning toward the direction of the arrow. All he saw was a flash of silvery hair and then it was gone. He shook himself out. What was he doing, waiting here while his friend was hurt? The brunette sprinted toward the tree bunker, as fast as he could go with a bird hybrid in his arms. Panting, his lungs burning, he pressed the button toward the lower entrance and dragged the blonde's unconscious body inside, making sure to shut it behind him. He rushed up the stairs, staggering at the weight of the man in his arms, before getting to the parlor. Everyone turned to looked as Scar appeared with Grian in his arms.
Aves came rushing in, staring at the man in the brunette's arms. "What happened?!" She demanded, running toward her friend. Scar set him down on the couch gently. "I- I don't know. We were outside- and then there was an arrow- and now he's-" The elf hyperventilating, full panic mode as he tried to figure out how to help his friend. The poor hybrid was in horrible shape. He was sweating profusely, his sandy blonde hair sticking to his scalp. His skin was a ghostly pale, and his eyes were shut tight. He was squirming as if he was having a nightmare, and his wing was turning a sickly shade of green. Aves inspected the arrow, which she identified as a poison one. "Thank the gods, it's not deadly! We can save him. I need a warm washcloth, some cactus juice cure, and a bucket," she yelled to the nearest Avian. She looked to Scar nervously. "Maybe you should leave, things might get messy-"
"No-" the green-eyed man answered. "I'm not leaving his side. I'll- I'll sit here until he wakes up. He needs me, he needs me." The Avian just nodded grimly. The elf started blanking out. All he could think about was Grian, Grian Grian Grian, they had to save him, had to help him, he couldn't lose his best friend, no no no-"
"Scar!" A shout dragged him out of his thoughts. It was Xisuma, yelling from the kitchen doorway. "Come here," he motioned. The man looked down at his hand, which he had unconsciously wrapped in Grian's, and grudgingly let go. His face numb, he entered the kitchen with the admin.
"Scar, I know your worried, but it's gonna be okay," X started, placing a comforting hand on his worried friend's shoulder. "I'm sure they'll save him. We won't let him die." Scar looked at Xisuma. "We'll save him," the businessman remarked, his eyes turning the darkest shade of green the leader had ever seen them be, "and then I will track down whoever did this to him and make them pay."
Xisuma shivered, despite himself. The brunette could be real damn scary when he wanted to be. He had always pictured Scar as this happy - go - lucky elf who was a bit on the dimmer side. The helmeted man tilted his head. The things one would do for their loved ones.
"All I saw was silver hair," Scar lamented, bringing Xisuma back from his thoughts. "I don't think it was an Avian. As I've been informed, all the Avians loved Grian. So it had to be an elf," The emerald-eyes man finished, his pointy ears twitching. "You think one of our kind did it?" X questioned, his full attention now on Scar. The other nodded seriously. "Probably one of the war assassins. Thank the gods Avian weaknesses aren't known. I don't know what I would've done if he was ever-" The taller elf choked, stopping mid-sentence. The admin shook his head. "He'll be fine," Xisuma reminded him gently.
Just then, Aves called them into the living room.
"He's conscious, but just barely," she relayed, her eyebrows furrowing worriedly at her friend. "I figured you'd want to see him as soon as he awoke."
Scar nodded gratefully. "Thank you," he added genuinely, before turning to his bedridden bestie.
"Scar?" The blonde croaked weakly, his eyes squinted and his face pale and sweaty. The brunette squeezed his hand. "Yes Grian, it's me," he confirmed, stroking the blondes hair with his available hand. The black eyed man coughed. "I don't feel so good, Scar," he said, his eyes now growing hazy. "I know, luv. It'll- it'll be okay. I won't let you die," the magician cooed softly, his eyes tearing up. How could he have let this happen?! His perfect, amazing friend was now laying in a bed, fighting for his very life. "I won't let them hurt you again," he whispered, looking Grian in his eyes. The hybrid nodded sleepily. "Alright, Scar. I'm feeling a bit tired. I think I'm going to take a nap now," the Avian announced, his voice hoarse. He was already falling into slumber, his head nodding downwards.
"You do that, Grian. You do that," he sighed quietly, placing a gentle kiss on his friends' forehead.
"Have a good nap," he whispered before turning away to his now - unconscious friend. "He better be okay," the brunette said in a low voice. "Or I will personally make you all look like he does now," he said, glaring at every person in the room. On that note, he walked out of the living room and onto the balcony.
The businessman stood on the balcony, leaning on the railing. How many times had him and Grian done this, just sitting quietly and enjoying each others company? How many times did they have left? He shook his head; he couldn't think of that, a world without his best friend. The man pushed some hair out of his eyes, his fingers grazing over his soulmark. For a moment his mind wandered. Who could his soulmate be? Could it be one of the fighters who was waging war against the two countries? Could it be some person in this house? Heck, what if it was the person who had shot Grian? He scoffed. There was no way he could EVER love the person who hurt someone he cared for so much. Grian was his very best friend, the person he couldn't imagine spending the rest of his life without. That's what best friends were for, right? Buddies for life? He sighed, closing his eyes. Whoever his soulmate was, he would never forget the sweet blonde that he cared for.
And at that moment, he decided.

Nothing would ever come between him and Grian ever again.
