"Pearl...?" Scar said, obviously confused. "Pearl?!" he repeated, louder this time. "It was PEARL?! Of all the people, I never had thought-" He sighed frustratedly. "Oh well. Doesn't matter now. She's gonna pay for what she did to Grian," the man said with a deadly quiet finality. Aves shivered. Damn, Scar was pissed.
Before Scar could stomp off, Aves grabbed his arm. "Listen, man, I know your angry, and I am too, but we need to handle this subtly. We dunno if this is 100% true or not, so we shouldn't burst in accusing her. Okay?" Scar nodded, obviously not hearing a word she said. Aves sighed. Oh well.
The brunette stormed into the hallway, stopping at the last door on the right. The girls' room. He was seething, and the female was low key frightened. She had no idea what he would do, and it was really scary. Especially since Scar was supposed to be the sweet, kind, a little bit dull, easily lovable guy. The one everyone gets along with. Sheesh, how he could change.
The taller burst through the door, Aves on his heels. Pearl was sitting on the rooms bed, reading a book. They had already seen Cleo in the living room with some of the doctors, so they knew she wouldn't be in here. But oh, the business man was mad. He stomped over to Pearl, who was now looking quite surprisedly up at Scar. "Urm, Sca-" she was cut off as the other whipped out a short-blades knife and presses it against her neck. She looked to Aves, panicked, and Aves just shrugged. Who was she to stop him? Damn, remind her to stay on Scar's good side.
"We can do this the easy way, or the hard way," the scarred man announced in a low voice, staring daggers at Pearl. She gulped, staring at her pursuer. "S- Scar, what are you talking about, I don't-" she stuttered. "Don't play dumb with me," he said impatiently, pressing the blade harder against her neck. She coughed as a single drop of blood slid down the blade. "Grian was wounded by an arrow. And arrow with your fingerprints on it. So enlighten me, dear friend, what did you do to Grian?" The blondish girl gulped again. "I- I didn't do anything! I don't know why my fingerprints were on the arrow, but it wasn't me!"
Scar stared straight into her eyes. He was a pretty good judge of character, and always knew when someone was lying. He sighed, cursing under his breath. "She's telling the truth," he said to Aves, putting his blade back into his pocket as Pearl rubbed her neck. He suddenly looked more sullen, and slumped down. "I'm no closer to figuring out who hurt Grian. I've failed him. I let him get hurt, and now I can't avenge him. I'm the worst friend ever." The brunette sighed, burying his head in his knees. Aves motioned for Pearl to give them some privacy, and Pearl left the room, with a quick scared glance at Scar.
"Scar, I know you feel responsible for Grian, but it really isn't your job. It's nice if you to help care for him, but doing everything for him will just burn you out. Then you're no help, are you?" Aves stared off for a moment. "Sometimes you just put so much on yourself that you get exhausted. Trust me, there was a time in my life where I was so tired of life that I simply didn't want to exist." The Avian spaced back to the present. "Anyway, the point is, you need to take care of yourself, Scar. When was the last time you showered? Ate? Slept? You're no help to anyone if your exhausted yourself. We'll handle the Grian situation for now. You just focus on rest."
Scar sat for a moment, taking this all in. Sure, she had a point. If he was too tired, how would he figure out who hurt his friend? And Aves was right, he hadn't showered in like, a long time. He took a deep breath. For now, for a few hours, he would focus on getting himself back into shape. But after that, it was back to Grian. He shrugged. "Fine. I'll take one day to fix myself up, but then it's back to the case. If anything happens to my best friend while I'm "taking self care" though, I will rip off all your skin, bit by bit, until you are nothing more then flesh and bones. Understand?" He asked cheerfully. Aves agreed, secretly fearing for her life.
Scar stretched, then headed into his and Grian's room. From the hallway, Aves turned to the living room. "You heard that, hmm? He really cares about you, Gri."
Grian, who had remained quiet but heard the whole thing, sighed. "I don't know, Aves. He doesn't deserve to throw his life away just because he's connected to me by some magical, coincidental string of fate. I'd prefer not taking all that from him. I think it's best if he's free, even if we both feel the same."
Aves walked over to Grian's bed, sighing. "Yknow, you don't have to think of everyone else all of the time. You exist too, man. You matter. You're enough." The blonde sniffed at Aves' words. Man, how many times he'd wished his parents would've said those four words. How many times he'd cried himself to sleep, wishing, no, yearning for someone to care, to know, to simply acknowledge that he existed. But he was raised in a household where love doesn't matter, good grades and scholarships and money were all that mattered. Mental health? Pfft, that was out the window by the time he was seven! Snapping back to the present, he stared at Aves.
"Yes, it's probably better if he never has to know the heartbreak of not being loved. He is my everything, and I can't lose everything all over again."holy macaroni talk about ANGST.
