Gideon has been feeling quite different towards his lovely wife. He couldn't put a finger to what these feelings were.
He just knew that there wasn't any feeling of bitterness anymore. He would always desire to be with her anytime.
Whether helping her in the kitchen, with the laundry or attending to their son. As far as Danielle-Grace his wife was there it was all good.
Unknown to him that he might be losing her for the rest of his life, much sooner than he expected.
He has been full of doubt if maybe she wasn't ready to give their marriage a try. A second chance for him but it was her very first marriage.
He was determined to ensure it would be their last. He really desires her presence in his life.
Whatever happened to the Gideon who wasn't interested months back is a mystery still unknown to Gideon.
Gideon Bassey was in love with his wife but he hasn't figured it out yet. His heart, soul, body and spirit were set afire whenever he was with her.
His eyes will wander loving all over her. Seeking her out in the midst of the crowd, admiring her tenacious devotion to their son.
Yes theirs wasn't a conventional marriage but it was done anyway. They are both married joined together for a purpose.
It may have seemed bleak months back but no he was determined to make things alright God help him.
Danielle-Grace interrupts his thoughts as he has been looking at her in a quite different way. The expression on his face was quite unreadable. But she discovers how flushed her cheeks were.
Her heartbeat was different but she has already made up her mind. Tomorrow they were to see the marriage counselor together.
During their last meeting the man who might be in his mid-fifties suggested that she brings him along.
Without wasting much time she made her request before she would develop cold feet. But she didn't intend to spell it out the way it came off her lips.
The expression on Gideon's face was surprising but not discouraging. He accepted to see him with her and that with questions. Grateful she felt quite uncomfortable in his presence and was about leaving when he pleaded with her to stay.
Her surprised feeling still intact doubled up with this request of his. Agreeing she sat and averted her eyes to the television trying her best to pay attention to the programs that played.
All the while she could feel his gaze on her from time to time. Unknown to her that his mind was pondering on the sudden visit to the marriage counselor.
The following morning they were both seated at the counselor's office, the man was quite elderly by guess he would be in his early fifties or late fifties.
All the same Gideon wondered why they were here and for what reason. He hasn't asked Danielle any question so far but was determined to please her as much as he could.
Not wasting much time Mr. Ikechukwu had introduced himself to Gideon for the first time and asked Danielle about her well-being.
Gideon observed that there was already a certain familiarity between them.
He felt left out and some new feeling began to spread on his mind, wondering if all was well. Which meant Danielle had been coming to this office without him knowing.
Avoiding some negative thoughts from coming in he decided to allow himself focus and do anything to please his wife.
Mr. Ikechukwu began speaking at length to the both of them clearly he was addressing their matter in a very subtle but obvious way. The truth was that anyone who was blind or deaf would know it was about them.
He had addressed their lack of proper intimate communication which was quite true. They spent most of their time discussing randomly without speaking deeply about each other.
If they weren't talking about Arlo, they would discuss about their both families, work, church and health matters if anyone falls ill.
They haven't had a discussion about each other. Right there it became a source of concern to Gideon "the error of his ways". He hasn't been doing the right thing irrespective of how their marriage was created.
Communication is key to any relationship no matter how it was created. Before the situation that brought them both into marriage they had shared an amazing friendship.
Aside what he had with her brother Dustin and their entire nuclear family. Gideon understood at that point that he had alot of repairs to begin making in his marriage if he needs to fill up the void created it wasn't time for blames.
He would rather take the blame and begin the repairs than wait for Danielle.
When they had finished with him he felt there was more that wasn't mentioned.
Danielle-Grace had been quite silent since they had driven out of the premises of Mr. Ikechukwu's office.
Patiently he waited until they had picked Arlo from his in-laws place so that they will have a proper discussion at home away from distractions. In addition to the fact that he was trying to absorb all that he had heard today.
He felt remorseful and was determined to right the wrong in his marriage before it was too late.
He needed no soothsayer to tell him that his new seated feelings towards his Danielle was one of love.
Born out of his observation of her loyalty and devotion to their marriage despite all they had been through.
Once more they tried to put up the appearance of a happy couple to avoid questions when they got to the family house.
Dustin was around and that seemed like a buffer for Gideon to ease his nerves before they reached home.
Gideon had opened up to his dearest friend and brother for over two decades how much he was afraid of losing his wife.
Dustin had encouraged him and gave him some good advice about doing the needful immediately to avoid a whole lot of issues that might be quite ugly.
This time he knew it wasn't going to be in death but in a most brutal way if not handled immediately and delicately.
Danielle had been wondering in her mind all through the day what must have been in her husband's mind. She knew that he might have been super shocked with all that Mr. Ikechukwu had mentioned.
It felt like she had been revealing so much to the man about their marriage behind his back. Danielle wasn't expecting him to bring up matters they had discussed together.
She thought he would have kept it as a secret between them. But despite her apprehension she was indeed grateful that most of what she needed to tell her husband had been indirectly passed.
But she wouldn't wait any longer for a "miracle" to occur in their marriage. She was going to do the needful immediately. After dinner she would make her intentions known to him, Gideon.
Although she knows it would break her she was determined to reveal her need and ensure everything is made alright.
When they were driving back home she kept preparing her mind to do the needful and it felt like world war III or IV was about to take place again in her heart.
Not willing to wait any longer afraid that she might loose focus and back away from her decision. She decided to say it anyway.
As soon as they had driven into their garage Danielle blurts out to Gideon her desire for a divorce. What she wasn't expecting was the pain in his eyes at her request.
