Gideon felt like a whole block was laid on his heart after he had clearly heard Danielle's request.
She had requested for a divorce, has their marriage gotten to that stage where they would go through that dreadful path. While he was still ruminating on what she had said Danielle looked on wondering what could be going on in his mind.
Divorce wasn't a joke, it wasn't like going back to the grocery store to return what you bought and didn't want again.
Divorce has a lot to do with pain, regret, desires of what could have been,to some though.
These were Danielle's own "reasons" for a divorce.
She has prepared for this day by going through stories of people mostly women who had gone through this path unknown to her.
She wasn't expecting him to look forlorn, hurt and uneasy.
Her heart pricked knowing fully well that she was about making a mistake. But she wouldn't continue to remain here in a marriage both parties weren't comfortable with.
"Why would you want a divorce?, Gideon eventually spoke up.
Being careful not to respond harshly or rudely Danielle took in some fresh breath to respond to his already answered question.
" We aren't happy, we are not pleased with each other. I can't continue to keep you "tied" in a marriage you never wanted in the beginning";she said trying to avoid the tears gathering around her eyes.
Gideon still couldn't accept what he had clearly heard. His world seemed to have crashed, his heart felt pricked. He thought there was time to make " amends he wasn't going to give her a divorce.
"I am not giving you a divorce;he responded firmly but quietly.
It was like a fresh strength came upon him to fight for what he is beginning to enjoy. What he was beginning to appreciate, he was in love with her.
Right now he wasn't going to give her the true reason for his objection to her sudden request but he needs to set his mind aright before he gives her reasons.
"We won't be hasty in making a decision that is quite irrevocable once done",he replied while unhooking the seatbelt to avoid any further conversation.
Danielle was ready to defend this decision of hers she was determined to relieve her husband the pain of what they call their marriage.
Stepping out from the passenger seat she carried the remaining bags out of the back seat while Gideon had carried a sleeping Arlo. Once they had settled in and tucked him to bed Danielle came into their bedroom to ensure she demands an answer from him.
"Please may I know why you would not give me a divorce. Are you satisfied with how our marriage has been? May I know why you would want us to continue to endure each other than enjoy our marriage just like what God ordained it to be;" she asked without stopping.
Turning away from what he was doing he faced her shocked to see tears streaking down from her eyes. That's right they both have been married for almost two years and yet they haven't discussed this, they have not in anytime have a heated conversation as such.
"By God I would not give you a divorce, I would not give you a divorce Dani",he spoke so softly trying to hide his pain.
"Dani",he called her Dani the very intimate name that he always called her in the past before they got to this point.
... I can't give you a divorce, I can't until we are able to settle all of these. Please let's not settle for divorce until.." he took sometime to continue to avoid saying something regretful.
They both stood there looking deeply into each other eyes without saying anything further. Danielle allowed her tears flow and she could see clearly expressions of emotion in his eyes.
Without saying anything she leaves the room to the bathroom. Left alone Gideon heaves a sigh of relief but his heart beat was yet to come back to normal.
He wasn't expecting such turnout in their relationship. He has come to love her so much, he wasn't ready to let her go. It's high time he fights for the love he has been given afresh.
Dustin's heart has been fixed on Adure, but he has intentionally kept his distance away from her after her initial engagement was announced.
In as much as she wasn't in his reach anymore he still feels some attachment to her. He has been praying, seeking God for answers concerning his heart desires for a wife.
Today was a midweek service and they had just concluded with the grace. Heading towards the parking lot he hears someone calling him. Turning he sees Adure approaching him with a broad smile on her beautiful face.
Composing himself, he prepares for anything she was going to say to him. He wasn't ready to receive another shocker from her. So far so good they have been enjoying their friendship and he wouldn't trade it for anything else.
"It's been a long time since I have seen you, hope you are okay? She asked once she was close to him. Dustin replied with a smile that he has been alright just busy and occupied with work.
"I can understand that maybe because of my engagement you might take a decision to avoid me but it's okay if that's what you want";she added with a wistful smile.
"No, Adure..ermmm I wouldn't lie
but it's partially true. You can't expect a man about to be married to a wonderful young woman like you to be comfortable with another man being around her",he responded further.
Looking into each other's eyes one would be able to tell that there was much more beyond their supposed friendship.
Most especially from Dustin's side. For Adure it's quite obvious that she wasn't "excited"about her upcoming nuptials.
For whatever reason she feelings much at peace and ease with Dustin than with any other man, her fiance inclusive.
With her fiance she felt comfortable, calm, fair but not as she feels with Dustin.
Around Dustin she has so much of a kin spirit with him, a lovely friendship and definitely she was deeply attracted to his deep relationship with God and his family.
This she hasn't told anyone but the Holy Spirit alone.
