Jungkook feels anxiety running through him. He doesn't know why or how he gathered the courage to confess to Taehyung but the worst part of it all was it will always stay with them in the back of their minds because it wasn't a drunk confession that he could disregard as a joke. He was sober and serious and it was all real.

When they return from Jeju, they go back to their schedules, go back to being friends, forgetting that the confession ever took place.

It's been only a day since they got back and the trip to Jeju already seems like a blur. The only vivid thing is the rejection, painfully highlighted.

Jungkook only hopes they at least go back to being what they were and not be awkward around each other. He is fine with loving the elder and not being loved back as long as Taehyung is still by his side. He will manage somehow, he tells himself.

"Pass me the bottle, Jungkook-ah" a sweaty, panting Taehyung gestures towards the water bottle. They just finished the routine of their new choreo.

Jungkook passes it without much thought but they both freeze when their fingers brush against each other's. He realises then that it might not go back to how it used to be, afterall. His feelings will keep growing and it will be unavoidable.

Taehyung just conjures up his most natural looking smile to avoid making it awkward and with years of acting experience he has mastered it but Jungkook sees right through it. The smile he was dying to be the reason for was now fake. Taehyung just gave him a fake smile, he has to fake a smile because of him. Jungkook wants to cry all over again.

This is just one time. It happens again and again till the fandom starts noticing it. It has been long since the rest of boys noticed it but neither of the youngest fessed up. They insisted everything was alright.

They have so much muscle memory, they both realise, hugging each other without thinking when the recording was successful, giving each other encouraging kisses when their photoshoot turned out good, smothering each other when their songs topped charts. It was all so effortless, so natural. It had become a reflex and now they were suffering because of it, because every time they did one of those things they'd just awkwardly part away and smile a smile that looked like a grimace.

It is never going to be mended. They know it and it hurts.

But under that grimace Taehyung hides his blush and confusion, they're doing the same things they used to before the confession but why does it feel so different.
