"Bring your butt down here right now", Khalil threatened me from the floor of my apartment outside.

I was on the third floor of my apartment complex sticking my tongue out at him after throwing down his keys to him.

"You know I'm not ready yet! Give me another five minutes", I yelled back and rushed from the railing of the stairs into my suite and through the living room into my room. I looked around my room to look for a pair of sneakers since I was currently wearing slippers.

Today was Sunday, August 18, 2014. The day before our first day in our sophomore year at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University (NCAT or A&T). My apartment was actually closer to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) because I stayed in the Province apartments. He stayed closer to our campus in the Campus Evolution apartments.

What we had planned for today was to meet up with his friends in his apartment. So far I was making him late to the gathering he was hosting. Thankfully another one of his friends was staying with him so if anyone got there early -which let's be honest with each other, since when do people gather early to hang out- then someone is there to open the door. Instead of like last time when Khalil didn't answer the door, they hosted the get-to-together out on the lawn in front of the apartment. It got out of control because too many people invited themselves since it was outside and there was free food. And it just so happens that most people that we got to become friends with actually are pretty well known around campus so it was natural that people recognized them and included themselves in the gathering.

Khalil at the time was hanging out with his other group of friends and invited them over, once he saw the party that was taking place out in front of his apartment it was a rap. Khalil officially became the most popular student at A&T. I mean it was like high school, middle school and elementary all over again. Khalil would forever be popular.

Unlike me, I was well known, not popular. There was a difference. While Khalil knew a lot of people and a lot of people know him, I did not know a lot of people, yet a lot of people knew of me. Simply from association with Mr. A&T, aka Khalil. He hosted the best parties (even if he isn't there), he tutored in Math (Trig & Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus I & II), Science (Physics I & II, Chemistry I & II), President of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), all levels of Spanish and English I & II. And to top it all, he was a track star, 200 and 100 meter dashes.

But even if he seemed like mister perfect in everyone else's eyes. I knew his flaws. I grew up with him my whole life. In fact our families are so close that our parents thought that it would be a wonderful idea for us to be in an arranged marriage. As if. Khalil and I were not the best of friends growing up so our parents quickly ended that silly arrangement.

Some people might have found it as silly as the arrangement of accessories that did not so much match the outfit that I picked out for today. The little flower child as my friends will call me other than little miss hippie. I do not smoke, gosh people do not understand how much I hate it, however that is a story for another time. But I do dress up in light colorful clothing most of the time that, clothes rarely match and I have a personality that makes people think I am overly happy, down-to-earth or on a full time natural high. Usually my outfits reflects how I am feeling that day.

Like for instance. Today is a cool-chill/tomboy-cute day for me, yet with a smidge bit of adventure twisted in there. I had on a green crop top with black lettering "Wild" and green harem men pants with accented black lines. My shoes were all black vans that I easily put on after slipping off my slippers. I knew I would sweat if I do not drink water before going outside so I drunk some water in the process of looking for my other silver bracelet. I have this thing where I do not like wearing just one bracelet. I am wearing my big silver hoop earrings and a my black tattoo choker. With the chill outlook I have got going on, there is no need for jewelry especially if the crew ends up playing soccer or football.
