I adjusted my school bag to rest just on my right shoulder. Natural habit that I picked up since middle school. Walking out of Physics II, I checked my schedule to see that I had an hour block of free time. Just what I needed.

"Trying to hit the caf," I nudge Khalil in the hallway.

"Sure, but I have Differential Equations in an hour," Khalil said with a nod.

"How about you Justin," I asked him glancing behind my shoulder.

He looked up from his phone, "I have Calc 3 now."

"Well I'll talk to you later. Good luck," Khalil nodded his head at him and then both he and I proceeded to the exit while Justin went up to the 2nd floor.

"I wish I was taking Calc 3 and not Diff Eq this semester," I said sadly shaking my head. I knew I should have taken Calc 3 over the summer.

"Well at least we have each other to rely on to study the material," Khalil said with a grin.

"Tis is true."

We walked out of the building on our way to the caf.

"Wait is that Jackie? Jackie!" I yelled to get her attention.

"Chill, you're creating a scene," Khalil tried to shush me.

I raised an eyebrow at him.

"I'm giving you 3 seconds to get away before I yell again if I have to," I retorted back.

"Jackie!" I yelled again. Despite the front Khalil put up, he still stayed by my side. Good. He better have known that I was better than a silly reputation.

Jackie finally turned around. She spotted me and waited for us to join her.

While I was cool and well-acquainted with Khalil's group of friends, I had my own set of close-knit friends. Jackie having to be one of them. It was 5 of us. Jackie, Simone, Lauren, Katerina and I. We were so close that we all received our boat registration licence together, stayed in the same dorm our first year, slept over at each other's place over the summer even if we are 3 plus states away from each other, and often went on road trips together.

It was an interesting combination, us five. Three Engineers, two Artists. Simone, Lauren and I were engineers. Simone was an Electrical Engineer, Lauren was a Mechanical Engineer, I am an Architectural Engineer. Jackie was a Visual Arts, Graphics design major and Katerina was a Visual Arts, Design major. We quickly figured out that our study sessions were not too helpful. Even our freshman seminar classes were different. Each geared to each individual major. We all only shared three similar classes English I & II and African-American Studies. Despite all of us having different class schedules, we still made time for each other during the weekends, after classes and for lunch. Our favorite spot to meet up was in Katerina's room because she did not have a roommate.

We all got along because we met through the same floor our dorm, Holland Hall in our freshman semester. The dorm was a traditional all-female dorm. The perks of the dorm was the location. That was the only one. One of the downsides of the dorm were it was untidy in the bathrooms because it was a community bathroom. Of course there were janitors however some of the females in our dorm did not have the utmost hygiene. Another downside is the visitation hours. We lost visitation for ⅓ of our first semester because some females left trash in the hallways as if the janitors would throw it away. I was disgusted and pretty darn "salty". Once we lost visitation, Khalil could not join my friends, and that resulted in my crew truly being my crew. Khalil couldn't come over to hang with us in our dorm. And when it got cold, trust me, no one wanted to step foot outside. Except for the the snowball fights. Speaking of which, there was a snowball fight where we were standing.
