Inseparable When Together

Chapter 6

How did we wind up in the school cafeteria? The world may never know. I was telling him how badly I wanted to go to Ihop. He told me he didn't want to drive so far from school. I mean come on, he could have taken us to the one near Walmart which is only 3.3 miles away from school by gps. Then I told him I wanted to go to Dame's Chicken and Waffle, which is only 1.8 miles away from school. He complained that it was too expensive. Needless to say I got frustrated and told him to head to William's Dining Hall. I mean the food is pre-paid after all. Remind me to never get my hopes up high when Khalil says "Hey where do you want to go to eat?".

After we ate, we had 13 minutes until class started. Since our first class was behind the cafeteria, once a 6 minute walk maximum, we decided to hang outside of the cafeteria to people watch.

"Hey, you see that female with the white maxi dress on approaching us?" Khalil questioned me.

"You know what a maxi dress is? Since when did you know fashion?" I responded chuckling.

As she approached and got closer she noticed Khalil and I. Or should I say she really only saw Kahlil and gave him a shy smile. Khalil smiled back and and nodded his head at her. She continued on her way and Khalil finally looked at me.

"Whatever. Pretty sure everybody knows what maxi dresses are," he rolled his eyes, "but you saw who I was talking about walk by just now right?"

"Of course, what about her?" I asked

"Well she's my lab partner," he shrugged with his reply.

"Really? Cool," I stated nonchalant.

"Yeah, turns out she's also a civil engineering major," he replied bobbing his head up and down with a smile.

"Cool," I drawled out. For whatever the reason, I really couldn't see why this conversation was happening. I could care less about this girl.

"Well, she told me that somehow her lab time is conflicted with her physics class time. And I may or may not have convinced her to switch out of the lab and pick your lab time so that you two may switch lab classes," Khalil said with a sly smile.

I looked at him with wide eyes.

"Wait! That means-", I started.

"Yes, it means that next week for lab, we will be lab partners," Khalil grinned.

I hugged him super hard at the awesome news.

"Aw, thanks! I sure hope she can deal with late night labs," I laughed giddily.

"I should check my email to see if the professor responded to my switch," I said and immediately took out my phone to check my emails. Sure enough my professor emailed me about the switch and said that it was possible. I cheered and hugged Khalil one more time.

Once I settled down I looked at the time.

We still had plenty of time till class started.

"So are we cool for real for real now?" Khalil asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Hmm," I said stroking an imaginary beard, "I suppose so."

"Good." Khalil replied with a grin.

"Whateva," I replied smiling and rolling my eyes.

We just sat there in comfortable silence smiling and watching people rush to class.

After a while I checked my phone again.

"Welp, looks like we should walk to class," I said.

"Sure," he replied getting up.

We walked to class in McNair Hall. Along the way we spotted my friend Lauren.
