Khalil looked back at me from his seat in the middle of the front row, whilst I stared back from my seat in the back right corner. Four rows away. The fact that he could peek at me even though an immense football player sat to the seat at a diagonal on my left hand side was a sure sign that he needed my attention desperately. He raised his eyebrow and motioned with his head for me to sit next to him on his left. I rolled my eyes and shook my head discreetly. He frowned and turned back around in his seat clearly disappointed. I grinned and decided to sit next to him after all. I walked up to his seat barely not bumping into the seats along the way. Khalil turned his head and both of his eyebrows shot up.

"Hey", I said softly.

"Hey", he matched my tone of voice.

"So... did you manage to talk to the teacher about us pairing up for the project?" I questioned.

He nodded his head in answer.

"He said we could do it?" I asked.

"Yeah," he said with a slight smile.

I couldn't think of anything else to talk about so I just slumped in my seat with a little pout. Of all the times to be a complete dork when I am with this guy, it just had to be now. I couldn't think of a single witty conversation starter. Not that I was ever truly witty anyways.

Khalil and I were finally sophomores in college. We weren't the only ones who came the six hours to our awesome school from D.C. Currently we took all of the same classes, however we did not talk as much because of our interesting history.

Long time ago, Khalil and I were not the best of acquaintances. We were the typical childhood enemies that grew up to eventually tolerate each other. We were founded guilty of "hiding our feelings for one another through a love-hate relationship" according to our friends, so they naturally tried to set us up. We were boyfriend and girlfriend only in label because the reality was that we could not stand each other.

Eventually we broke it off. Interesting enough, in our later years, Khalil and I decided to start a true relationship because feelings were invested in us. Too bad the timing was off. Being in a relationship our senior year of high school, we decided to break-up so we would not be tied down to each other.

That was before we realized that we were going to the same school with quite similar majors. But still, in college we decided to be pleasant towards each other. No romantic ties because we wanted to be free to enjoy the full college experience.

If we did not have such an interesting history, I am pretty sure that I would be able to talk to him instead of having this awkward silence hovering our heads.

Thankfully his friend Justin walked in.

"I didn't know you have Physics II with Sandine as well," Khalil said with a head nod.

"Yeah, glad I have him and it fit with my schedule," Justin replied.

"'Sup Justin," I said with a smile.

"Hey, oh wait, was I interrupting something?" Justin questioned us.

"Not at all, plus we are in class," I told him to reassure him.

"Physics first, fun last," Khlail said to back me up.

"Ain't that the truth with this class," Justin said with a grin and sat next to me.

"Aye, but I am sorry I fell asleep on your lap yesterday at the party," Justin told me with a sheepish grin.

I chuckled, "no worries, I didn't leave until an hour after you woke up anyways. Next time don't drool."

Justin's face looked horrified.

"She's kidding," Khalil chuckled as well.

"Not funny, not funny at all," Justin shook his head.

Just then, a flood of students walked into class. Probably all coming from the same class. All engineers take the basic courses together just about.

After 3 more minutes of wait time and students trickling into the classroom, our professor should up.

"Hello, my name is Mr. Sandine and I would like for you to pass down the syllabus in each column," our professor said after placing syllabi for each student to pass down.

Khalil and I shared a look that conveyed the message, "well, here goes nothing".
