Mustang POV:
Shuffling the papers so they lined up neatly on my desk, I grumble about how unfair life is, eyeing my Lt.'s pants. She looks over hearing me and does that thing I swear she does, where she's glaring but doesn't change her facial expression. She just hardens her eyes at me. I knew she knew what it was that was making me grumpy. Turning away from her not feeling guilty in the slightest I reach over to my desk phone to call Elric when it rings before I can touch it.
"Colonel Mustang." I don't do hellos. Or good-byes for that matter.
"Yes, Hello sir! How is your morning today?" A cheerful female voice says loudly. It's like I can see the sparkles and sunshine in her voice. My eye brow twitches in irritation.
"Who is this?"
"Oh right. My name is Maeve Morrigan. And I have a little bit of carrot that you might like. But you'll only get it if you give me something in return." She still sounds cheery and louder than is right at seven in the morning.
"Tell me what you know and then we'll see about your 'request' " I hear a heavy sigh and judge her to be young. Or at the very least immature. Really leaning towards immature, reception doesn't pass calls on to me from brats unless it's Edward.
"Well, there are a few men who just boarded the 7:40 train to Central City. And a General Hakuro is targeted by those men." Maeve states bluntly, cutting off her giggles cold turkey. I feel a shiver run down my spine just from how cold and careless she sounded all of a sudden. Not to mention she also sounded bored. But her words got a verbal reaction from me.
"Can you prove it?" I ask, trying to imitate her coldness.
"Can you see what I'm seeing?" She asks me back.
I pause for a second, no doubt she noticed it. This Maeve girl seems to be a lot more than she first appeared.
"If one of the police were to go find you right now, would you tell them what you told me? And have them call me?"
Cruel laughter explodes from the other line. I quickly pull the phone from my ear, getting my staffs attention with the sudden movement. When it quiets down I pull it back just in time to hear her say ".... Here you go."
"Hello? Mustang?" I hear Maes Hughes say. Whaat...?
Confused inside I ask Hughes if what the girl said was correct. He responded that it was, and that it was Maeve Morrigan who discovered their plans.
"Oh and also the terrorist named Bald is here leading the group. I'm not confident that I can protect the General just by my self. Are there any other officers in the area who could help?"
Thinking I go over that area in my head, I was feeling very doubtful until an idea occurs.
"Nope you're on your own. I expect them all in cuffs when you get here, is that understood?" I say firmly.
"WHAAATT!? Are you trying to kill me? What about Elicia? I got her a present and I really want to see her smile and then snap a picture of her!" Hughes whines. How a grown man whose lived through a war bad enough to be labeled as War of Extinction can be so childish is beyond me.
I respond, chuckling.
"Oh and you may meet some friendly faces while your traveling back. Now put Maeve Morrigan back on."
"Umm... Yeeeaaahh about that...she kinda already boarded the train, and its going to depart in like ten minutes sooo..." Damn. I guess I'll just have to wait for her at the station here and ask her then. Shivering once again, I hang up on Hughes and lean my head onto my desk feeling oddly defeated by that girl. I hear footsteps and Riza talking to me.
"What?" I ask her.
"I was just saying I never see you shiver. Do you need some assistance?" Riza says. Thinking quickly I decide to take advantage of this.
"Yes will you help me, and put this through?" I ask, face still smashed against my desk.
"Yes sir. Tell me what you need."
Smirking I perk up immediately and pull out some designs Havoc, Fury and I came up with for the female officers uniform.
"Thank you! Now go put these through like you said you would!" I smile cheerfully, closing my eyes to give the effect of innocence. Really I'm too afraid to see what she looks like right now.
"Sir." That one word said with so much malice and judgement it made me have to remember my training in not backing down from my goals. I hear her walk towards the office exit and felt the door slam. Panting, not realizing I had been holding my breath, I slump into my cushioned chair, sweating like mad while my men look at me in awe at first then smiling broadly at our success. I was told that a Female officer was the only one who was allowed to changed their uniform styles, so this was very lucky for me. Laughing the guys all high five each other. I would have joined in on the celebrations, (at the moment they were toasting to my 'Near-Death-Experience' and asking if I saw my life flashing behind my eyelids.) but I found it difficult.
I just couldn't shake the sense that I was manipulated by a stranger. Calling them into order, I call out to Fury.
"I want you to find any information on a female by the name of Maeve Morrigan. You got that? Have it done by six. I'm leaving for the train station at 6:30"
