Maeve POV:
It's finally here. Exam day. Ed, Al and I walked up the steps to the exam building to take our written tests. Ed and Hughes convinced me it would be fine to leave my ears Au Naturale, but to just keep the tails in. Up next to the door was Hughes, and next to him Mustang, who I hadn't seen since I sneaked into his office in Al. Hughes told me later on while we were walking around showing me the sights of central that he told Mustang that I was there, and how his face looked.
Now it looked like he was over my freaky-ness it seems. "Ed, Al, a moment? Maeve go on inside with Hughes." I looked at Ed and then Al, and I blinked my left eye. Ed and Al blinked their right. Mustang nor Hughes caught our silent communication. I basically asked if I should listen in through Al, and they both said no. I wont then. Hughes held me around the shoulders, as if showing me off. I knew that was exactly what he was doing. Hughes told me how he and Mustang and his Second Lt Riza Hawkeye knew of who I really was. Then he asked for my autograph. It was a first I have to say.
And Hughes still hasn't gotten used to having a living piece of history right in front of him and looking so cute. Even if I am the remnants of the bloodiest history of this world. I still havent told them what I am though. And I asked that Ed and Al, or others outside the military not know. Officers go in to work each day knowing it could be their last. And that knowledge would be worse than a death sentence to them if certain beings found out they knew. As far as I know, no one else knows. Only Mustang and his people.
"You feeling nervous?" Hughes asked.
"No, you?" I said, I knew he cared about all three of us a lot, and would feel horrible if one of us failed.
He just pinched my cheek and left me in a class room. I walked to the top of the desks, so if people tried to cheat, or stare at my ears, they would get caught. I played with the pencil they provided me with while I waited. A man walked up to me, and I knew he was trouble. I was going to be one of the youngest ones here, it was going to burst some ego-colored bubbles when Ed , Al and I passed and they didnt. He stopped next to me and I looked up at him blankly. He didnt seem to be looking at my face, but a little bit south, towards my chest. I glared at him; he was a idiot and I would be doing the country a favor if I paralyzed him. But that is a no no, as I've been told by Hughes.
I had to have lessons in 'manners' which really were just Hughes and Gracia pounding in my head, "No violence given unless violence offered." and others too. This idiot staring at my chest was not actually hurting me or anyone, so I couldn't hurt him.
"Move on over, Chicka. Why dont you let me sit by you?" He smiled a come-hither smile at me and I felt like gagging. No way was I 'coming Hither' anytime soon. I frowned some more, my ears pressing flat against my head, and I felt my fangs snap out. I hissed at him, making him pale and shuffle down to the front row. Mood lighter my ears perked back up and my fangs folded down.
Then I saw Ed walk in. Alone. Curious, I checked on Al, and found him sulking behind the building. He was told it wouldnt be a good idea if he applied, something about there being a physical test where his 'secret' might get out. I grumbled along with him. Ed spotted me up at the top, and I think something has set him off again. He looked mad. He must of wanted to have Al here too. He walked up to me and sat down next to me. I knew it was useless to think Ed would cheat off me, he knew all the questions just like I did. We would be fine.
"Sorry about Al." I whispered. Ed looked at me and nodded. He looked agitated still, so I sat still and waited for the examiner to come in and give us our tests. A old man in uniform walked in, said if we cheat, we get kicked out and wont be able to retake the test. While he said that, two other uniformed men were passing around thick packets. The Old man rang a bell, and we had two hours to finish as many as we could correctly. I may know just as much as Ed about Alchemy, but I was a faster reader/writer than normal people. Ed could read at a normal pace, but he was a slow writer. It always drove me insane when ever I'd have to wait for him to write down anything. Sloppy hand writing too. But I cant blame him for that. Now a days they didnt drill children to write beautifully and perfectly. I was taught in that manor in all the languages I knew how to speak, my teachers were paid with lives, so they drilled me hard, hoping I would learn quickly and then leave them alone. Which I did.....in their graves.
