Ed POV:
I look at my hand, and hide my excitement. I'm beating you this time damn Wolf! She is wonderful at poker. I think mostly cuz she's amazing at acting. I put down two pretzels.
It's been three days since we hired Sheska to re write Dr. Marcoh's research work. A very uneventful boring three days. Al and Maeve spent most of that time playing card games. I had watched for a while, before Maeve convinced me to play against her. We were playing poker now and instead of actual money we were playing for snacks. We had made a deal that after three wins, one of us would get the snack we wanted. The one that lost would be denied that snack for a month. I chose a basket of chocolate chip cookies. Maeve chose a solid chocolate bunny. This was our third game today, and I was on a losing streak. She just has the best luck.
She put down one marshmallow. I raised an eyebrow at her. "You sure you want to do that?" I smirked. She leaned back against her chair, fanning herself with her hand of cards. "Oh yeah, I'm sure." She smirked back, looking at me from the corner of her eye. We've only been back for about five days now, and we were already as close as when we first went separate ways. Al looked between us. He had been a huge piece of worry filled metal this whole game.
I stood up and threw down my hand of cards feeling confidant. "Ha! I bet you cant beat that! Now hand over the cookie basket." I smile hugely down at her. She inspects my cards, and then her lips curl up into a mischievous grin.
"What did I tell you about getting your hopes up without proof, Ed?" She stands up and holds out her cards for me to see. She had a royal flush, while I had a straight. I collapse back down onto my chair.
"That was the third time today that I lost! Damn it! Here, take it you greedy Wolf." I grumble holding up the chocolate bunny. I hear Maeve squeal as she snatches it from my hand. Then she jumped on top of my back squeezing out the air in my lungs and smooshes my face onto the table with what I can only assume was her foot.
"Ah ha! I have defeated the golden dragon at long last! Now I can eat his yummy captive! Wahaha!" She yells in a strong voice, still standing atop me.
"I'm not a dragon you idiot!" I yell up at her at the same time that Al goes,
"You're supposed to save the captive not eat it!" I stand up, forcing Maeve to fall off me and land on the couch. She was giggling manically at my glare.
The door bell rang then, and Al went to go answer it. I shook my head as Maeve ate the whole bunny in one bite.
"One day you're going to choke." I sat down next to her on the couch. I notice a piece of paper sticking out of her pants pocket.
"And one day you will realize that my jaws and throat are different from your own. I don't choke on anything." She smiled smugly as she rubbed her stomach. Realizing what the paper is, I snatch it out of her pocket, which let a bunch of high cards fall out of her pocket. She smiled weakly at me while I glared at her.
"Give that bunny back!" I yell as I lunge for her. She tried wriggling out of my grasp screaming
"No! No you can't have it! It's mine now!" I dont let her go and finally just sit on her legs and hold both of her hands in one hand above her head. I wiggle my finger threateningly at her.
"Then accept two months of chocolate free hell." I grin at her, inching my hand to her ears. She is still supremely ticklish around her inner ear hair, and she tries very hard to not let anyone know of that little secret. She looks up at me with wide eyes, then she puts on her pleading look. She was even blushing.
"Please let me eat the chocolate? You wouldn't deprive a little girl her candy, would you?" She flutters her eyes.
"That's not going to-" I start before I hear what sounded like a stack of books falling. I look up and see Al and Sheska standing over a small heap of books. They were looking at me. Sheska had a red face and steam was coming off her. I looked down at Maeve, and then realized what this probably looked like to them. I jumped away feeling my face heating up at bit. Ok it was heating up a lot.
