A Werewolf's Lost Howl, A Zombie's Lost Heart

Chapter 1: *1

"Why would you cheat on me, Addison?!"  Zed raises his voice, tears filling his eyes.

"I didn't know how to break up with you!" Addison raised her voice back.

"Zed, wake up, it's okay." Zed heard a soothing voice as he felt someone shake his shoulder. He opened his eyes with tears falling down his face to see Wyatt staring at him with sad eyes.

"It's going to be alright." Zed couldn't get his tears to stop falling. Wyatt then climbed into bed with Zed and wrapped his arms around him and Zed pressed his head into his chest.

"It's going to be okay, Zed," Wyatt whispered as he used one hand to wipe his tears away, "I'm here for you."

The zombie slowly fell asleep again at the rhythm of the werewolf's heartbeat.

When he closed his eyes, he heard Wyatt say, "I'll protect you, Zed."

The next morning came sooner than Wyatt thought as he was woken up by the sun shining through the window, waking him up from his slumber.

He rubbed his eyes as he yawned, trying to get rid of any sleep left in them before sitting up in the bed, being careful not to wake Zed up as he unwrapped his arms from around Zed's waist.

As soon as he unwrapped his arms, Zed groaned in his sleep at the loss of contact, which made Wyatt chuckle.

'Why are you so cute?'  Wyatt thought with a smile before climbing out of bed to head to his room to get ready for the day.

After taking a shower, putting on some fresh clothes, and brushing his teeth, Wyatt decided to wake up Zed so they could head to the dining hall for breakfast.

Wyatt knocks on his door, "Zed, are you awake, yet?"

He heard shuffling behind the door and heard Zed respond, "I'm awake."

"Do you want to go to the dining hall together for breakfast?" Wyatt asks.

The werewolf hears another shuffling, "Yeah."

"Okay, I'll wait for you." Wyatt responded back.

When he went back to the living room, his phone beeped.

He grabbed his phone off the table and saw he had a message from his sister.

Willa: Are you and Zed coming down yet

Wyatt texts back: We're on our way

He puts his phone in his pocket when he hears Zed come out of his room, "I'm ready."

Wyatt smiles, "Let's go."

When the both of them made it to the dining hall, Zed spoke up, "I'm sorry."

Wyatt looks at him, confused, "For what?"

"For waking you up last night with my crying." Zed spoke with a sad tone.

"You didn't wake me up with your crying, Zed." Wyatt gave a gentle smile.

"I didn't?"

Wyatt shook his head, "No, I was already awake."

"Oh..."

"Yeah, you didn't wake me, man." Wyatt patted Zed's arm.

Zed let out a sigh of relief, "I'm glad I didn't wake you. I was worried that I annoyed you." He admitted and Wyatt gave him another look of confusion.

"Why would you annoy me?" Wyatt questions and when Zed avoids his gaze, he realizes, "Did Addison tell you that?"

Zed didn't say anything, still avoiding his gaze as Wyatt felt angry.

So angry, that Zed could feel it coming from Wyatt for some reason.

"Why would she say that about you? You're not annoying!" The werewolf tried to keep his anger down.

Wyatt was the only one who knew about Zed's breakup with Addison because Zed couldn't find the courage to tell the others, but only tell Wyatt since he was the one to comfort him the day they moved into their dorm together.

Zed told him exactly what had happened to lead to his and Addison's breakup. To Zed catching Addison cheating on him, to her admitting that she didn't know to break up with him and the rest of the story goes on.

"It's okay, Wyatt, it's not like she was lying." Zed tries to assure but Wyatt wasn't having it.

"That doesn't make it right, Zed. Addison shouldn't have said that about you."

"Don't worry, it's not the first mean thing she said to me." Zed blurted out.

"What?!" Wyatt growled.

"Nothing. She said nothing." Zed quickly said.

"What else did Addison say to you, Zed?" Wyatt demanded.

Zed began to look around to find a way to dodge the question until he spotted something. "Oh, look, they're serving pancakes for breakfast." The zombie changed the subject.

Wyatt noticed how he changed the subject, "Zed, you have to tell me."

"I'm so hungry," Zed rubbed his stomach, "I'll meet you at our table." With that, he sped off, desperately wanting to avoid the conversation.

Watching Zed leave, Wyatt instantly felt bad. He didn't mean to make Zed feel like he couldn't open up to him. Wyatt just wanted to know what Addison had said to him.

'Addison,' Wyatt thought, 'I hope we don't cross paths.' He angrily thought as he went to meet with Zed at their table.

Later in the day, Zed was in the library, researching for a paper to complete his History homework.

He was almost done with his homework when he heard someone call his name, "Zed." Someone he thought he'd never hear from again.

Zed raised his head, "Addison."

"Can we talk?" Addison asks with desperate eyes.

Meanwhile, Wyatt was eating froyo at a cafe shop near the campus with his sister, who noticed how angry he looked as he was eating his froyo with such force.

"Who shit in your cereal today?" Willa jokes, earning a glare from her brother.

"Nothing." Wyatt gritted his teeth.

Willa raised an eyebrow, "It can't be nothing because you're acting angrier than me. Which is weird, since I'm the angry twin and you're the calmer twin."

Wyatt rolled his eyes and sighed, "Fine, it's about Zed."

"And did Zed do something to make you angry?"

Her brother shakes his head, "No, it's..." Wyatt didn't finish his answer when he trailed his eyes out the window, seeing a certain somebody that he has his anger directly towards and someone who he didn't expect to see together.

"Wyatt, what are you looking at?" Willa inquires, following his eyes out the window, "Why are you looking at Zed and Addison?"

"No reason," Wyatt growls as he looks from the window.

"There's gotta be a reason for why you were staring at them with such fury in your eyes." Willa pointed out.

Willa then thought about it, 'Zed could be his mate.'
