Chasing Smoke-Shinichiro Sano x reader

Chapter 6

“No.” Shoko bluntly says and although Seiko seems to still be contemplating whether Shinichiro’s idea is good or not, she too nods at Shoko’s words.

Hiroshi is completely in favour of trying out Shinichiro’s plan and it only takes one word from Shoko for him to start arguing. Seiko is listening to their argument and it is taking her strength and a lot of fidgeting with her necklace to stay silent and try to listen to both of their points in this mostly meaningless argument.

Benkei and I give each other a worried look. Any other gang leader would have jumped at any chance they got to defeat their rival gangs but the past Ragnarok has with Kodo Rengo is different. It’s not that neither of the two gangs-Kodo Rengo and Ragnarok didn’t get enough information on the other to be able to defeat them, It’s the fact that none of the two gangs actually tried to defeat the other.

Benkei glances at Hiroshi and Shoko arguing and then turns back to me. I give him a look that says ‘you’re not seriously thinking of trying Shinichiro’s plan, are you?’ Although I’m not completely sure of how I feel about it either. Benkei replies to my look with a shrug that indicates that he’s not sure and goes to break up the argument between Shoko and Hiroshi that has turned into a fight with Seiko cheering from the side.

I turn to Shinichiro, He doesn’t know about the past between Kodo Rengo and Ragnarok, not many people do, but I can’t help but blame him for this. Maybe I just needed someone to blame for all my problems and I found that person when I saw him in the park, confused but with an idiotically funny expression that looked like he was given the task to save the world and didn’t know what to do.

Shinichiro looks back at me with a desperate expression, urging me to give his plan a chance and I remember the promise that I made to Benkei. And for a moment, I actually consider trying out his plan, defeating Kodo Rengo is only good for our gang, and maybe its time to move on from the past, Wakasa did, Benkei should too, or it is going to get him and Ragnarok in a lot of trouble.

“I don’t think you should even get a say in this since you weren’t there when the gang was formed” I hear Shoko say, he’s lost his cool and that is when I know that the fight is getting serious, Shoko rarely looses his cool, even when he’s fighting.

“I think you shouldn’t get a say in this because you were there, you’re too attached to that guy” Hiroshi says and I finally decide to stop their fight since Benkei isn’t able to do anything, “I think, you both should shut up so we can vote on this instead of fighting”

Seiko dramatically sighs when they both stop arguing and turn to look at me but the three of them finally walk down the stairs, leaving Benkei, and turn back to face him.

“Fine,” Benkei sighs, “Let’s vote then” We don’t always agree on things every time, so we decide to vote on it, although the final decision will still be up to Benkei.

“Who thinks we should try out Shinichiro’s plan?” Benkei asks

Hiroshi is the first one to raise his hand, he’s fast to do it, as if he’s going to miss his chance, he isn’t sure if anyone else except him will raise their hand but he’s sure that he is going to.

Then Seiko does, she’s slow with it, unsure, raises half of it first and shrugs at her brother before fully raising it.

They both look around at me and Shoko, waiting for one of us to raise our hand and I don’t completely comprehend my actions before I have raised my hand and Benkei is looking at me, confused. I was fast to do it, not because I was sure of myself, but because I was unsure. I thought I would back out of it if I thought about it any longer.

“Fine” Benkei says nothing else, and steps down the stairs in a few seconds of silence that feels longer than it is, he tells Shinichiro to get started on getting him that information and finally leaves without turning to look back at any of us. He knew that the final decision was still up to him, even after the vote, yet he chose to follow the outcome of our votes. I think that maybe he was afraid too, that he would back out if he thought of it any longer, he was afraid of backing away from all the time he has taken to move on.
