Chasing Smoke-Shinichiro Sano x reader

Chapter 5

This is going to be Shinichiro's first gang meeting and I am going to have to fulfill the promise I made to Benkei and give him a chance. I know first gang meetings can be a little intimidating and I almost feel bad for him.

The meeting starts like it always does, all the members gathered in the meeting spot, making way for the leader and division heads to enter. Benkei leads the way, followed by me, Shoko, Seiko, Hiroshi and then Shinichiro.

Benkei then started the meeting as usual. Shinichiro was introduced as the newest member and he seemed awkward standing there. Everything was great until Benkei announced which division he'll be in, the first division, the one that I lead. I tried to protest but Benkei pretended he didn't hear me and continued with the meeting.

More members informed Benkei about Kyokuryu Kai targeting the members of Ragnarok and I could see him getting pissed off.

He finally snapped "Enough" he shouted, "Are we going to let Kyokuryu Kai target our members and take us down one by one?"

"No" The crowd shouted back

"We are going to fight back" Benkei's voice was echoing and it was loud enough to be heard all over the parking lot.

The crowd cheered back and so did all of us, the division leaders standing beside Benkei.

The meeting ended and people started leaving. The division members were all still there and so were many of the members.

"Hey, you're the guy who convinced Benkei to reject Kiyoshi's offer, right?" I hear Hiroshi, the fourth division leader, say to Shinichiro and I was planning on ignoring it but then the threats started coming. Kiyoshi always seems to be trying to start fights with anyone and I had to save Shinichiro from getting beat up by the fourth division leader in his first gang meeting.

"Come on Hiroshi, leave him alone" I say, sounding tired.

Hiroshi raises both his hands in the air and gives me a defeated look as Shinichiro backs up a little but stays close enough to be able to listen to the conversation.

"Benkei stood up there and gave a whole speech about how we're going to fight back against Kyokuryu Kai and we all cheered" He started saying angrily and I had a feeling I knew where he was going with this "But we all know this wouldn't be happening at all if we had just accepted his offer in the first place"

"What are you trying to say? That we should've just handed over our entire gang to Kiyoshi?" I snap at him. I knew that accepting the offer would give us a lot more power but before Benkei even met Shinichiro, even I thought for a moment of declining the offer, even I thought of it in a more human way: I thought of having to give up the one thing that's always been there for me, the gang we spent years dreaming of making, the gang we spent months growing, its name, the family it gave me. But then again I guess even Hiroshi was thinking of it in a more human way, humans are hungry for power after all.

"You know that's not what I meant," Hiroshi says "Did you even think about the amount of power we would have if we had just accepted the offer?"

"Did you think about what would happen to Ragnarok if we accepted it?" I have finally had it "Do you really think that we would have any of this left if we accepted the offer? No, Hiroshi, all that would be left of this gang would have been slaves to Kiyoshi, betraying each other for the man who would do anything for power"

Hiroshi scoffs but he seems to understand what I'm trying to say, I guess we're all just afraid since the strongest gang we have faced yet is Kodo Rengo, Kyokuryu Kai is different, they might not have as many members as we do but they have more money and resources, and they definitely don't fight fair, many of us seem to think that if they're not fighting fair, neither should we.

I turn to walk away and my eyes fall on Shinichiro still waiting behind me. I look at him for a moment, scanning his nervous expression and walk away, hearing him say "Thank you" right before I leave.

The meeting is over now, all the members are gone except the captains and Shinichiro. We're all sitting on the stairs, talking about random things and smoking cigarettes. There is a slight chill in the air that comes with the month of October and the sound of laughter is ringing against my ears.

Both Hiroshi and I are calm now but Shinichiro still seems nervous near him.

"Come on dude, chill. I'm sorry about earlier" Hiroshi tries to talk to Shinichiro

"Uhh it's fine" Shinichiro replies, I smirk, Hiroshi's efforts are obviously not working.

"I don't think I introduced myself, I'm Hiroshi" It's funny to see him try again. Hiroshi is a nice guy, he will fight you for everything he believes is right, he just doesn't stop the fight when he realises he isn't right. But he will always apologize later.

"Shinichiro" Hiroshi nods a him

"I'm Seiko" A shout comes from right behind Hiroshi and he dramatically winces at how loud she was

"I'm Shoko" The twins couldn't be any more different from each other, Seiko is the loud one with the bright smile and optimistic mood and Shoko is quieter and calm.

"Shoko is the one who designs all our uniforms, don't forget to give him your measurements later" Benkei adds, he's standing at a distance from us, leaning against a wall.

Shinichiro nods. He seems nervous, as if he's thinking of something, but what he says next is something none of us expected. "I think I can help you defeat Kodo Rengo" My eyes widen, everybody is surprised at his unexpected words but Shinichiro simply sighs, as if he's relieved to have said it at last.

My eyes shoot up to look at Benkei who is already looking at me and we both have a silent conversation before looking at the others to see their reactions and they are the same as ours, except Hiroshi. He stares at Shinichiro, he looks like he is thinking about something serious, coming up with a plan, trying to figure out what Shinichiro thought of.

"How do you suggest we do that?" Hiroshi finally asks, still not taking his eyes off Shinichiro who looks nervous and is trying his best to avoid eye contact.

"Well.... " Shinichiro starts explaining his plan nervously, like he is not sure of it. "We know that Ragnarok and Kodo Rengo are at equal strength, almost equal number of members, power, that is the main reason the two gangs have been in a rivalry for such a long time, because neither Kodo Rengo nor Ragnarok can defeat the other. The only thing that can help us finally defeat them is the element of surprise."

All of us stare at Shinichiro, still horrified at his suggestion. Hiroshi looks at him with some kind of excitement, and contemplation, waiting for him to tell him the whole plan.

Shinichiro continues, now looking straight into Hiroshi's eyes, he can't avoid the eye contact for that long, or maybe he doesn't want to. He's still scared, still nervous, but confident of himself and his plan"To have the element of surprise, we need information on them. Surprisingly, none of the two gangs has been able to gain any information on the other gang that could be enough to take them by surprise and finally end the rivalry by defeating them. But," Shinichiro takes a pause and looks at Benkei before continuing, "I think I can get you that information"

a/n: I hope you all like the new chapter, I know it's a smaller one but I'll try to update the next chapter as soon as possible.

 I didn't write for the past 6 days and now I'm behind on my Nanowrimo total word count goal and I have no idea how I'm going to make up for it. But I've been so productive with school too so Idk what to feel. It's like I have to choose between writing and school, it's either one or the other and I have no idea how to balance both of those together.
