I open my eyes to see two sets of little beads staring down at me. I freeze instantly and try to remember what exactly happened.
Where am I? Why can't I remember?
One second I was sure I was going to die. The next, I'm here. Obviously not dead.
At least...I don't think I am...
I sit up slowly and the creatures quickly move out of my way. I look down to see that I'm dressed in something completely different.
It's a dress, but...not something I would ever willingly wear. My belly is completely exposed and the only thing connecting the top to the skirt is a thin strip of fabric I can feel running down my back. Besides that, even, the skirt has a slit that reaches all the way up to the top of my thigh.
My eyes grow wide in horror at the thought of someone seeing me in this. I never show this much skin. Unless I'm in the shower, that is.
"Dear god."
I reach down and hold the slit closed, then slowly turn to stand, feeling extremely self conscious. It's now that I notice the difference between these creatures and the first ones I met.
These have longer legs that don't bend as much and their hands look like actual hands. It's not too much of a difference, but still noticeable.
I wonder why they're different.
Maybe it's like an ant colony: certain types of ants have different jobs.
It's one possibility anyway.
In any case, I need to get out of here.
I also need to get some real clothes.
I slowly walk around the room, keeping an eye on the creatures as they follow me. They don't seem like they want to hurt me, but they also aren't shy about openly staring, which is making me nervous.
I eventually stop and turn to them, "Hello..."
They jump slightly before continuing to stare at me.
"My name is Bethany."
More staring.
I point to myself and speak up a little, "Bethany. I'm Bethany."
They blink before turning to each other, making sweet sounding humming noises. First one, then the other.
I study them closely, but no matter how hard I try, I can't find where the sounds are coming from. The only thing I can tell is that the sounds are coming from them.
They continue for a minute before seeming to decide something. One of them turns and picks something up off a table-like structure. The object is tiny and round, almost like a small marble.
The creature slowly comes closer, apparently trying not to make me feel threatened. The other one comes up to me on my other side, but their movements are so beautiful, so soft and fluid, different from the ones before, that I can't feel afraid of them.
They put the small object in my ear and back away. It's freezing cold and I almost reach up to take it out, but I know they put it there for a reason, so I try my best to leave it.
"Did you turn it on?"
The voice is smooth and beautiful and it seems to come from the second creature.
Ah.
A translation device.
"I think so. His technology is so confusing and I still haven't come to understand exactly how it all works."
