Spot groaned as he heard his alarm go off.
Or it wasn't really his, more like it was Race's which they both needed to wake up from. Spot wouldn't have minded getting out of bed if it just had been a regular Tuesday.
But it was february 14th which meant it was none other than valentine's day.
He and Jack hadn't talked much since Spot had snapped at him last time. He was more focused on school and his grades. He let a bit go of the roses since he would just wait and see what happened next.
As he got out of bed before someone came to drag him out of it (probably Race) and went quickly to the bathroom so he was first.
As he was fully ready he went downstairs to get some fresh air. It was still a bit early since Race preferred to wake up then so a small walk couldn't hurt.
As he opened the door he saw something lying on the ground.
It was a rose.
Not that it was too surprising to find one but he hadn't really expected it laying there at the moment. It also wasn't a new color like before it was a green one.
As Spot picked it up he immediately noticed that this one was real unlike the others.
'Green roses stand for the beauty of peace. It creates a sense of stability and balance for the mind. Stability is hopefully something you got over the past weeks you've been living at Medda's And peace of mind is hopefully something you're going to have after today. We're sorry we've kept you waiting for so long. Love'
Spot smiled as he read the note. This made his day already a bit better.
He walked back inside to find something he could put the rose in since this one was real and for that reason needed water.
As he entered the kitchen he was happy to find that no one was there yet. He knew that Medda probably had already left and that Crutchie was trying to get Jack out of bed.
He only didn't know where Race was.
Spot went with the flower in a small glass upstairs to put it in his room. He expected to see Race there since that was the only other option in his mind.
But the room was empty. Spot just let it go and knew Race would show up sometime.
After Jack and Crutchie had eaten something they all got in the car.
"Where's Racer"
"He left early this morning for valentine or something" Jack had answered.
On their way to school Spot looked as rain drops made their way down the car windows. That had always been one of the things to calm him down when he was stressed. Just watching rain fall on the window and then in his head the races which came down first.
Sooner that Spot would have liked they arrived at school. He knew that day could go two ways.
Either he noticed nothing from it that it was valentine's day and it was going to be a peaceful day or he was going to remind every second of the day that he was single.
As soon as he walked up to his locker he was met with Elmer. The younger boy had a wide smile on his face and hands behind his back.
"Morning Elm" Spot faked a smile as he opened his locker to get the books he needed for his break.
"Hi Spot" Elmer's smile only seemed to widen as he rocked back and forth on his heels.
"What's going on" Spot asked as he closed his locker.
"I'm here to give you this" He said as he pulled his hand from behind his back and handed Spot a note.
"From who is this" Spot asked as he was about to open it. But Elmer stopped him.
"Sworn to secrecy and I was told you can open it after class has started" Elmer said but before Spot could ask more questions Elmer already went off to somewhere else, leaving Spot standing confused with the note in his hands.
As soon as Spot sat in his class and it had started he opened up the note.
'Your locker at lunch' Was all it said with a small heart on the end.
Spot knew for sure that he was going to get crazy today. But he hoped that in the end it would be worth it. His third hour he shared with Jack.
"Have you seen Race at all today" Spot asked Jack. Normally he would see the boy somewhere in the hallway but today Race seemed to have disappeared from the earth.
"Yeah you didn't" Jack asked as he was doing one of the exercises that the teacher had given them for homework.
"No, not at all, only Elmer who stood at my locker this morning" Spot said.
"Had he something special or something" Jack asked still in a bit of a hushed tone.
"He gave me a note that said to be at my locker with lunch" Spot said as he also did his homework.
The two talked for a bit more before the class ended and Spot went to his last class before lunch. The hour seemed to go on and on as Spot also started to spot all the couples around him.
After the class ended he practically ran towards his locker. He didn't know what to do.
He decided to open his locker to switch his books. As he did, a blue rose fell out.
Spot managed to catch it before it hit the ground. Lucky for him the thorns were cut off.
The note that was with it fell off falling on the ground. Spot quickly laid the rose down and picked up the note.
'Blue colored roses stand for mystery or attaining the impossible. You will always be a mystery to figure out. What's going on in your head no one knows. And you make it impossible to read your face. Someday someone will figure out what's going on in your head. And hopefully you want to go to the park with us. See you there after school by the three. Love us. (This is going to be the last time promise)'
