Ally stood in the doorway of her bedroom, staring at it with it staring back. It was all the same. Her desk with all it's papers on it, her book shelf, a pile of dirty clothes that had needed to be washed the night of the accident. It was as if someone had pressed a pause button. But at the same time, it was completely different.
All of a sudden Ally was back in the hospital listening to her parents tell her how Nathan had died in the accident. His chest had been crushed by the door or seat or something. Ally wasn't able to concentrate and focus. It had been hours till she stopped crying and could breath.
Then she was standing back in her doorway and taking a deep breath, took a step in. The first thing she did that night was shower. Her first real shower since her time at the hospital. After her shower she went back to bed with her laptop. She didn't bother saying goodnight to her parents yet. It would be a while since they would go to bed. Besides, Ally knew they needed time alone.
So she logged onto her Facebook and looked at how the world still went on, even though hers had stopped. Apparently several people were having back to school parties before school started, including her best friend Ashton. Ally hadn't even thought of school which looking at the date, was a week from that day. Ally looked at all her messages. There were a lot. She didn't bother looking through all of them since most were just nosey people wanting to know what happened. But the ones that were nice and concerning she responded to. The ones that were left were from her friends and close family. After looking through them and replying she got up and looked for a book.
No matter what, Ally always read. She loved the idea of being somewhere else for a while. And right now, all she wanted was to be anywhere but where she was.
