When Ally stepped into the hospital and was greeted by the smell of hand sanitizer and hopeful wishing, she froze. The last time she had been to the hospital was when her own family was in a car accident and Nathan had died. After a moment Ally took a deep breath and walked to the front desk.
"Hi, I'm here for Griffin Parker." Ally said, played with an elastic band around her wrist.
"He's in room 136, but he's not allowed visitors at this moment." The women said, peering over the rim of her glasses.
"I know but can't I wait outside his room or something?" Ally asked more frantically.
"I suppose you could." The women said, giving Ally a skeptical look.
"Thanks." Ally said, rushing to wherever room 136 was. When she found it she saw what could only be Griffin's dad, pacing in the hallway.
"Mr.Parker?" Ally asked, walking up.
"Yes?" He said, startled out of his thoughts.
"I'm Ally. Griffin's girlfriend."
"Oh hello. I'm sorry we have to meet under these circumstances." He said, holding out his hand, "And call me Sean."
"Nice to meet you Sean." Ally weakly smiled and shook his hand.
"The doctors say he needs a heart transplant." Sean said, after.
"A heart transplant?" Ally didn't know it was that bad.
Sean nodded, "They have to find one soon or else he won-" He voice cracked and his eyes were glassy.
Ally didn't know what to do so she just stood there.
"I'm sorry Ally, it's just hard since Griffin's mom passed away."
"I understand." Ally said gently, because she did understand. She knew what Sean was feeling right now. The emptiness he felt that couldn't be filled with words. How losing someone tore you apart and then losing another was unbearable.
Sean nodded.
"My brother actually died, the summer before school started this year." Ally said, taken back by her telling him this, but she continued, "In a car accident too. I really do understand, and I hope we find a transplant."
"Thank you." Sean said.
After standing they both took a seat outside Griffin's door and waited. Some doctors came by and told them that they still hadn't found a donor but Griffin was at the top of the list. Before they left, Ally said something that would change her life.
"What if I'm the right match for him?" She asked them.
"We can't take your heart if you're not dead." The one doctor said, as if it was obvious.
"Yeah but I've seen in T.V. shows where they just take a part of someone's heart and give it to the person who needs it." Ally said.
The doctors considered this. At last the one said, "We could do that. It would decrease your life span but increase Griffin's a little longer until it can be completely stable. But you do realize it's highly improbable that you two are matches."
"Improbable doesn't mean impossible."
"Ally you don't need to do this. You don't owe Griffin anything and you certainly don't need to give him your heart." Sean said quickly.
Ally smiled at the corners of her mouth, "But he already has my heart."
With that Ally went through many tests and they came to the conclusion that she was a perfect match. Before the operation, Ally called her parents to the hospital. They were given some time to talk outside the O.R..
"Honey why are you doing this?" Her mom asked, wiping her face from tears.
"Mom I know you don't understand but I have the chance to save his life. I'm going to take it." Ally said, taking her hands.
"And what was the thing the doctors said, you only have a twenty five percent chance of living after?" Dad said, angry.
"I could be that twenty five percent dad. I want to do this. Please." Ally said.
"I still don't know Ally..." Her mom said, sharing a look with her dad.
"Please let me do it. I know Nathan is gone but I won't be. If I don't do this he might not find a donor and I would always remember that I was a match but did nothing to help." Ally argued.
Her mom and dad didn't say anything.
"Fine. You can Ally." Her mom finally said.
"Thank you guys, I love you so much." Ally said, as the three of them hugged each other.
Once Ally and Griffin were both prepped for the surgery they were taken into the same room with a team of doctors. The plan was to open both of them up, take off part of Griffin's heart then take off Ally's.
They were just getting Ally's heart taken care of when her heart rate started to go down.
"She's flat lining!"
"Get it under control!"
"We need the paddles!"
It was utter chaos as the doctors tried over and over again to keep Ally alive. But their desperate shouts couldn't work magic.
"Someone call it."
"One twenty-six AM."
