It was Friday night. A lot was falling into place in Ally's life. Griffin and her were becoming closer friends, although, it did cause some odd looks whenever they talked at school. Ashton's party was also Saturday which would be a great way to catch up with friend's. Ally was still sad about Nathan's death, but the therapist was helping her through it. Plus, Ally was also feeling a lot better thanks to Jace.
Her and her family were eating dinner when her mom started to talk,
"That boy seems nice."
"Yeah, he really is mom."
"What's his name again? Greg? Gerry?"
"It's Griffin dad."
"Well I think Griffin's quite taken with you."
"Mom, why would you say that? We're just friends."
"He's obviously putting in effort to see you. I'm sure you don't need to get together twice a week out of school to finish some english assignment. But it's more than that. You seem happier when you come home or talk about him."
And that's when Ally didn't say anything else. If she seemed happier than her parents were happy and she wasn't going to take that away from them. Not after what happened with Nathan. She decided to change the topic.
"I'm still going to Ash's party tomorrow night right?"
"Yeah, just no cops this time." Her dad said.
"Will do, is it okay if I go stay at her place tonight so I don't have to leave tomorrow?" Ally asked, hoping she wasn't pushing it.
Her parents shared a look and nodded.
"Yay, thanks guys." Ally said, going upstairs to pack a bag.
A few minutes later Ashton was beeping the horn of the Blueberry outside their house. Ally ran downstairs, saying goodbye to her parents on the way out.
"Hey." Ally said, getting in.
"Hey hey hey!" Ashton said with way too much excitment.
Ally gave her a look, "What am I missing out on?"
"Nothing, I just heard from a resourceful birdie that Romeo was going to ask you out tomorrow at my party!" Ashton practically screramed.
Romeo ask Ally out? They were just friends...right? Did he think there was something there, because Ally didn't.
"Are you sure?" Ally asked, fidgeting with her bag.
"I said resourceful birdie did I not?" Ashton said, pulling onto her street, "Why are you not pumped for this?"
"I just don't feel the same way." Ally said.
"Huh, well if you need back up, I'm here." Ashton said, getting to her house.
"Thanks Ash."
It was late that night and Ally and Ashton were sitting on Ashton's roof. This was one of Ally's favorite places in the world because you could see all the stars. Ashton was texting someone about the party tomorrow or maybe it was a boy, but Ally just liked being there.
Her phone chimed and it was Griffin. Surprisingly, this is the first time he's contacted her with her phone.
Griffin: Hi it's Griffin
Ally: Hey, what's up
Griffin: I might be a little late for Ashton's party tomorrow night, I just wanted to let you know
Ally: Okay, no big deal, thanks
"Who was that?" Ashton asked.
"Just Griffin." Ally said, putting her phone back down.
"Can I tell you something?" Ashton asked.
Ally could tell it was serious because Ashton rarely asked to say something.
"Anything."
"You're different when you're with him." Ashton said.
"Different how? In a bad way?" Ally asked, worried at first.
"No, not bad, just different. Lighter somehow. Don't get me wrong, you and Romeo would be cute, but you and Griffin are magic." Ashton said, turning onto her back to face the sky. Ally turned to the stars too.
She smiled knowing that people noticed that.
"I mean, I'll see you in the hallway and you'll pass each other and your eyes will brighten like you've been told the secret of the universe." Ashton continued.
That's when Ally realized she was being told the secret of the universe and it was Griffin. Griffin, the guy who had chosen Ally to ride on his bike. The guy who had shared his photographs with. The guy who had let Ally see a different side of him.
"Ash?" Ally said.
"Hmmmm?" Ashton said, she was dozing off.
"I like it when you tell me stuff."
