It was the week after and Ally decided to drive to school. Once she got to school, she went straight to her locker. She had already texted Ashton and was planning on meeting her at lunch. But when Ally got to her locker, Griffin was leaning against it.
"Hi." Ally said, waiting for Griffin to move.
"Hi." Griffin said, still standing there.
"So this is my locker." Ally began.
"I'm aware. So what's the deal with you and Romeo Quinn?" He asked, still leaning against her locker.
"Romeo? He's one of my best friends. Why?" Ally said, taken back by his question.
"Just curious." And with that he left. And the bell rang. And Ally was left with her thoughts in the crowded hallway.
"Class, we will be starting the story writing portion of the class. For a project, I'm going to be using the hat to put you into groups of two. And from there, you two will be writing a story of your choice, using all the curricular we're learning." Mr. Cooker said, holding a black top hat in his hands.
You could practically hear the walls sigh. No one liked the hat. it always seemed to know who you didn't want to be partners with. Maybe that's why Mr. Cooker liked it. He was cruel like that.
And then he began picking names.
"Austin and Sarah." More sighs.
"Sam and Jasper." They were lucky, they were best friends.
"Griffin and Ally." And my heart stopped beating. There were some woots from guys in the back but Ally couldn't hear them.
This can not be happening, she thought. She risked a look at Griffin but he was facing the front, not even acknowledging that they had been picked as partners.
At the end of that class, Griffin walked up to Ally.
"What's your number?" He asked.
"What?" She asked.
Griffin rolled his eyes. "You're number. The thing I need to contact your phone with."
"Um, sure, why?" Ally asked, getting all her papers together.
"We're partners. I might need to text you about the story. Or if we want to meet up."
The idea of getting together with Griffin baffled Ally's mind. I mean they walked together for a while but that wasn't close to actually being together. But Ally gave him her number anyways.
It was a few days later. Thursday, which meant physical therapist. It was also in walking distance so that's what Ally was doing, while talking on the phone with Ashton.
"So do you think we should host a back to school party?" Ashton asked.
"Didn't you just have one?" Ally asked, kicking a stone ahead of her.
"Yeah, but...this can be a second back to school party." Ashton said. They both laughed.
"Fine, but no keg stand this time." Ally said, kicking the stone again.
"Awe, why Ally?" Ashton whined.
"Don't you remember the last time we did?" Ally asked, kicking the stone.
Ashton's parents were gone for the weekend so of course she threw a party. There was a keg stand, and things got out of hand. Lets just say, the police were called and the night was not one to tell your parents. It was actually Nathan who had picked Ally up from the party. The memory made Ally's heart hurt, and when she went to kick the stone again, she missed.
"Earth to Ally, everything okay?" Ashton's voice asked, bringing her back.
"Sorry Ash, yeah, I'm good." Ally said, wiping her hand at her eyes.
"Well I thought about it and, fine, no keg stand." Ashton said.
"Good." Ally said.
Just then, Ally heard the sound of a motorcycle engine behind her. She glanced at the rider and saw that it was Griffin. Of course he has a motorcycle, Ally thought. He slowed to the curb and cut the engine, taking off his helmet.
"Um, I'll give you a call back Ash." And then Ally hung up.
"Are you following me?" Ally asked, walking towards his motorcycle.
"I've been looking for you." He said, taking his helmet off.
Ally found that very hard to believe. After Ally had given him her number he not once texted or called. And he was always the last one in and first one out of class. He barely gave Ally a chance to talk, and they haven't even started on the story project.
"Well, you do have my number." Ally said, waving her phone.
Griffin gave her a look.
"Hop on. We can work on the project tonight." He said.
Ally's eyes widened.
"Now? I have somewhere to go and you don't even have an extra helmet Griffin." Ally said.
"You can use mine. And where do you have to be? I can drive you there, then after we can work together." He asked.
Ally sighed, "Physical therapy."
He gave her a questioned look but didn't ask anything.
"So?"
"Okay." Ally said, taking the helmet from his hands, this time, they did touch.
