I found professor Snape in his office, he was waiting for me.
Professor Snape: "Ms. Wright, did you get everything you need?"
O: "Yes"
Professor Snape: "Good, I will meet you at 11pm outside your common room. Make sure no one notices that you are gone, there are many nosy people in your house. I will meet you outside your common room and bring you to the astronomy tower in case you come across one of the teachers. I will then wait a level down until you are finished."
O: "Okay. Thank you, professor. I really appreciate what you are doing for me and my family will acknowledge and remember your actions."
Professor Snape: "I only hope that when the time comes, you will be able to distinguish between those who have supported you and those who haven't."
I leave his office, a bit startled by his last comment. Snape is a Slytherin, and Harry thinks that he is a death eater. However, Hermione doesn't think that and I truly doubt that Dumbledore would let that pass either. I'm a bit puzzled by his words but decided not to think about it that much.
I arrived in the common room. It was late afternoon and there were a lot of people hanging out together. Since Umbridge had basically banned every activity, the only place we could hang out without any problem was the common room.
O: "Hey guys"
They all answer and George waves at me to sit down next to him, which is what I do.
O: "So I was wondering, do you guys think that Snape is a death eater?"
Harry: "Why, did you see anything?"
I decided not to lie but not to tell the truth either.
O: "Well he's helping me to get extra credit and when I thanked him for his help, he said something like 'as long as you see which side to choose at the right moment', or something like that."
I look around to see their reactions. I could tell from the faces that they had already talked about it.
Hermione: "If Dumbledore trusts him then I think we shouldn't worry about it."
Harry: "Dumbledore can be wrong sometimes. Snape can be hiding something."
O: "But he wouldn't say something like that to me then, it's very risky."
Hermione: "It is risky. He knows that we are friends and that you would tell us."
O: "Also why say that to me? If he wanted my family to be with the death eaters he should talk to my father instead. It would make more sense."
Harry: "Maybe he knows something that you don't."
Ron: "Like what?"
They all look at me as if I wasn't telling them everything.
O: "I don't know. I haven't gotten news from my parents since I came here. Many things could have happened."
I didn't want them to know what the letter was about even though I knew this was about the letter. We continue to talk until we slowly each get more tired and decide to head for our rooms. I pretend to sleep until I am sure that everyone is. Then, I put on my long cape and wear the hood over my head. Everything goes according to plan, meeting Snape and going to the tower. Thankfully, no one saw us.
Professor Snape: "The moon is well lit tonight. You'll be able to do the ritual without any prevention. I'll go down in case anyone comes. Good luck."
He leaves and I start the ritual.
I started by cleansing the area using incense. After that, I placed my candles in a circle and lit them up. I then placed the flower and the crystal in front of me. I sat down on my knees and tried to clear out all my thoughts. I I thought about my list of endings and read it in my mind and then thought about my mother.
I then open my eyes and look at the moon while reciting my poem I wrote before:
Crushed, bruised and crimson
Beneath a blood dripping moon
I bare myself of my flaws
and acknowledge their cause
the moon holds me down
I'll wear it like a crown
after relieving of my cries
the power within will rise
I close my eyes and picture the words on my list of endings. I then open my eyes and burn the list with a candle. Then I take my mother's letter. My heart tightens. As much as it hurts to let go, it was the right thing. Better to do now then to mourn her for god knows how long. I put the letter on a candle and watch it burn. The ashes rise up towards the sky.
After that, I take a moment to breathe deeply and concentrate. I had to read out the last chant of the ritual and claim my powers.
May the power of the moon surround me
Bring peace to my mind
Love to my heart
Calm to my spirit
Oh blue moon, I wish upon thee
keep me safe, but set me free
shine upon me your holy light
I hail your divinity upon this earth
may your energy engulf me
as I wish, so mote it be
Give me power from the outside world
I will give you protection from mine in return
I can slowly feel an energy being drawn from up to down. I feel a weight pushing on my shoulders, my body becoming hot. The selenite crystals start to move. Firenze was right. This means there is a source of energy close by. I now recite multiple times the Latin words Professor Snape told me to, "gutta cavat lapidem" and picture them in my mind. The words appear loud, there is a buzzing, my head is spinning and my body is burning. I close my fists and plant my nails in my hands making my palms bleed.
I open my eyes to look at the moon and gasp for air. Everything had suddenly stopped. I look around me. My palms were bleeding from my nails and the blood had dripped on the candles which had run out. Everything was dark except for the moon. I felt empty, no energy, nothing. I was so tired I lost my consciousness.
Everything is black. It feels like eternity, and nothing is happening.
Finally, I woke up with a huge headache. I slowly stood up touching my head with my hand, I was burning hot. I then looked at my palm, there were no wounds, no blood, nothing.
Professor Snape: "It worked"
I look at him confused. I hadn't noticed where I was. I wasn't in the astronomy tower anymore, but in Snape's office on his couch.
Professor Snape: "Your hands healed. Healing is a skill of a blood moon witch. It worked."
I looked back at my palm. There really were no wounds, not even a scar.
Professor Snape: "It's late and you've wasted a lot of energy, you should get some rest. Take a day off and we'll meet on Sunday to talk about controlling your powers. Don't try to trigger them before, you're not ready yet."
I walk back to my room. I was so confused, light headed, dizzy. As soon as I reach my bed, I crash onto it and sleep like a rock.
