Hey! My name is River Talon Reign, and I'm 103 years old (present-day). Yes, I'm old, but at least I look 25. My life is kinda crazy. Back in the 1940s, I joined the army with my fiancé, James Buchanan Barnes, AKA Bucky, and his best friend Steve Rogers. Bucky and I have been dating for nine years since I was 16 and he was 19.
We were in the helicopter. It was Steve and Bucky, and me. Someone shot me and I lost my grip and started falling. Luckily, Bucky caught me, but the handle he was holding on to started to break.
"Grab my hand Bucky. Just grab it, you got this!" But the handle Bucky was holding on to broke. We started falling. The last thing I heard was Steve yelling our names. "RIVER! BUCKY!"
I woke up in the snow and saw this man. He was bald, with circular-shaped glasses. However, I didn't get a chance to identify who he was, since I passed out. When I woke up my arms and legs were cuffed to a chair and next to me was Bucky.
"Bucky? Bucky? BUCKY? WAKE UP PLEASE WAKE UP BUCKY!" I yelled through tears rolling down my face. He slowly opened his eyes.
"Riv, are you okay? What happened? Where are we?" he asked, sounding nearly unconscious.
"I don't know," I responded.
Suddenly, the doors opened. It was the bald man with the glasses.
"WHERE THE F*** ARE WE?!?!? GET US OUT OF HERE!"
"Shh, it's okay baby. We're alright, okay? I've got you and I won't let anyone hurt you." Bucky said, trying to calm me down.
"Well look Mr. Barnes and I'm guessing Mrs. Barnes! How lovely. Now listen to me, you are going to listen to us and every word we say. We are an organization called Hydra-"
"NO! NOW GET US OUT OF HERE!" I yelled, cutting off the bald man.
"Ahh, I see we have a talkative one," he said and flicked out a knife and pointed it right to your neck. "Now you don't want me to do this. You'd make a great soldier."
"DON'T YOU DARE HURT HER! TAKE ME INSTEAD LET HER GO!" Bucky cried out.
"Hmm okay then. Now girl you're going to watch your dear husband die and forget all about you." the man said as two men behind me moved my chair, so I was facing Bucky and put something on my head. While two other men are attaching this headpiece to him.
"Any last words soldiers," the bald man said, laughing evilly.
"I love you forever and always River and whatever happens I'm going to do whatever I can to protect you. Okay, River? I won't let them hurt you." Bucky said.
"I love you Bucky. I'll be waiting for you. Always and forever-" I say before getting cut off by Bucky screaming. They were frying his brain.
"Желание, Ржавый, Семнадцать, Рассвет, Печь, Девять, Добросердечный, Возвращение на Родину, Один, Товарный вагон." and "Hail Hydra" over and over again. They all said.
"PLEASE! STOP! STOP! YOU'RE HURTING HIM LET HIM GO! PLEASE STOP!" I cried out, but before you knew it, Bucky was gone.
"I pronounce you as the WINTER SOLDIER!" the bald man said, "And now it's your turn!" "F***ING DO IT IF MY HUSBAND SACRIFICED HIMSELF FOR ME, I'M DOING THE SAME!"
Without a word they zapped my brain until I lost every memory I had of Bucky, Steve, and everything else, except the languages we knew how to speak. I spoke Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, Italiano, and much more. They repeated the same words they said to Bucky.
"You my dear will be the SHADOW SOLDIER!"
Me and Bucky trained every day and learned Russian together. Hydra controlled you and those words were "Желание, Ржавый, Семнадцать, Рассвет, Печь, Девять, Добросердечный, Возвращение на Родину, Один, Товарный вагон." translated into "Longing, rusted, furnace, daybreak, seventeen, benign, nine, homecoming, one, freight car."
They did lots of tests on us from that day on. They gave us this serum that gave us these incredible abilities. Super strength, speed, hearing, and anti-aging, so when we went undercover people wouldn't suspect us. They did more experiments on me though, because I was a female and they wanted to make me into a weapon, which me and Bucky were already one of, but they wanted to do more. In their heads, they thought a woman wouldn't be suspected of doing anything bad because they were practically housewives and had barely any rights. My other abilities were controlling people with my mind, fire, and water which means I can control the different states of water as well, when I get angry my eyes turn red and people say it looks like a flame is burning inside them and my hair turns red, I can also move through walls and turn invisible which was like a shadow that killed silently.
They called me the "Shadow Soldier" because I killed people without a trace, no one could see because the only thing people saw was a shadow in the surveillance cameras and in person. They called Bucky the "Winter Soldier" because he killed people in cold blood. We were Hydra's top trained assassins, but we were stationed in different areas since we kept getting flashbacks of what happened after a few days of training, so whenever we were assigned a mission together, we were told to wear these black goggles and a black mask to protect ourselves, but mainly so we wouldn't see each other's faces. Bucky had a metal arm with a red star on it. I had my powers, so we made a pretty good team when we had to assassinate multiple people. I tried escaping them, but it was hard, and they'd just brainwash me every single time if I remembered my past life or did something wrong. Just by saying these words, "Longing, rusted, furnace, daybreak, seventeen, benign, nine, homecoming, one, freight car."
