Chapter 25

SpottedPaw's POV

This was the day SpottedPaw was dreading until now. Her mentor, GingerFur, would be watching her where she couldn't see him when she performed her hunting skills and maybe fighting. Today was her warrior assessment! She was going to make her mentor proud, her leader, and GoldPaw's mentor, MapleLeaf, since GoldPaw was also doing her warrior assessment.

All of this would happen at noon and it was only sunrise, but SpottedPaw couldn't sleep. She looked over at the dawn patrol that was leaving and it was low on warriors, so SpottedPaw joined in. They left the camp and started towards the FirePack border. They checked markers and scents and they marked their own territory. Next, they went off to the IcePack border and they did just the same.

SpottedPaw noticed a mouse nibbling on a berry and crouched. She crouched closer and the wind was downwind so the mouse didn't smell her coming. She leaped up into the air and pounced on the mouse, killing it with one swift bite to the neck. She carried it back to camp with the patrol close by.

FrostPool padded beside SpottedPaw. "Nice catch back there. You'll become a warrior in no time!" She smiled and caught up with the patrol that was already heading into camp.

kill pile and headed off to the apprentices den to get a little sleep before her big assessment.

SpottedPaw awoke to be in camp, but she was dreaming. She wondered why she was in camp until a dog from StarPack showed up. She couldn't believe her eyes, but the dog from Star Pack was ShadowClaw!

She ran up to him and pressed her side against his and touched noses to his. "Oh ShadowClaw I can't believe you came into my dream! I mean I love it and I wish I could see you in every dream!" She nudged him again and let him speak.

ShadowClaw rumbled with amusement. "I know what you meant. I wish I could see you too everyday, but.." He broke off and sighed. "Never mind that. So, how are things in NaturePack?"

"Everything's fine, no attacks or anything like that." SpottedPaw's eyes sparkled. "ShadowClaw, my warrior assessment is today! Can you believe it? I wish you were still here to see me become a warrior." Her eyes clouded.

"It's alright. I can watch the ceremony from StarPack." He smiled and SpottedPaw smiled back. "I have something to say to you SpottedPaw before I fade away. A fellow member of NaturePack, SwiftFoot, said that you would become a very wise and brave warrior. That's all." He started fading. "Goodbye SpottedPaw! See you later!" He vanished.

SpottedPaw hated to see him go, but at least she got to see him. A very wise and brave warrior, huh? Well I believe SwiftFoot and ShadowClaw, so someday I will save the Pack and be a wise and brave warrior. SpottedPaw proudly thought.

She woke up in her bed this time and it was time for her assessment!

She padded out of the apprentices den and found her mentor, GingerFur, with MapleLeaf, GoldPaw's mentor. GoldPaw was also there and they were all waiting on SpottedPaw. Well she was here now and so they headed out into the forest.

GingerFur and MapleLeaf explained the basics of the assessment and ran off into the bushes. GoldPaw and SpottedPaw went in separate ways so they didn't distract each other. SpottedPaw was near FirePack border, but no patrols or dogs were near it, so she was safe for now. She sniffed the air and caught the scent of rabbit, squrriel and mouse. She went for the rabbit first. She traced it down and got in the hunter's crouch and killed the rabbit with two claw rips. She traced down the squirrel and killed it too. She buried both her prey and started on her next killing.

She padded along and stopped in her tracks. She smelled a dog and it wasn't a Pack dog. She crouched to the ground and tiptoed to where she smelt the dog. She hid in some bushes and she saw the dog trapped in some trap. It whined and SpottedPaw came closer to the dog. She made sure no other dogs were around. She looked at the trap and the dog trapped tried to snarl, but it just whined. SpottedPaw saw a stick attached to the trap that looked like it would let the trap loose. She pulled it off the ground and set it in part of the trap. She heard the dog gasping for air. SpottedPaw's idea worked!

The dog walked over to SpottedPaw. "Hey, thanks I guess for saving me. My name's Blaze, yours?" He looked at SpottedPaw and she blushed.

"My name is SpottedPaw, but your name sounds cool." She blinked and smiled briefly.

"Well I'm off then after all I am a rouge and I can smell Pack scent on you. Are you from a Pack?" Blaze sat down now and stared at SpottedPaw in amazement.

"Umm.. Yes I am and I'm from NaturePack. There are five Packs, but one is where loyal dogs go when they die. FirePack, IcePack, SandPack, StarPack, and NaturePack." SpottedPaw proudly said. She never got to talk about anything Pack like until now and she smiled. She liked Blaze, as a friend. "Hey Blaze.. Umm.. Would you like to join NaturePack? It would be fun and you would love it there!"

Blaze's eyes sparkled. "Really? Do you think whoever leads your Pack might let me in?"

"He let me in. I was once a PuppyPet and he still let me in. He's really nice and-" SpottedPaw was cut off by GingerFur.

"SpottedPaw what are you doing!? You just met this rouge and you think we should let him be apart of the Pack!?" GingerFur growled.

"GingerFur please! Blaze seems to like hearing about being in a Pack so why don't we show him to WhiteStar and see if he wants Blaze in NaturePack or not?" SpottedPaw pleaded.

"Alright fine, but you should finish your assessment first. After that we will take this so called Blaze to WhiteStar." GingerFur sighed and went back into the bushes.

"You hear that, you might be able to join NaturePack!" SpottedPaw excitedly said.

"I can't wait." Blaze said sounding excited, but SpottedPaw heard a mischievous tone in there too. She ignored it and continued her assessment which was pretty much over when she caught another squirrel.

GingerFur said she aced it by helping a dog in need and catching three pieces of prey. GoldPaw also aced her assessment and they were going to be warriors soon. Also, Blaze would maybe be apart of the Pack!
