Y/N was trying his best to celebrate christmas. He wanted to be happy but he just couldn't feel it. His whole career was revolved around that manuscript and no one even wanted to pick it up.
"Are you ready Y/N dear?" Y/M/N called out as he just sighed. It was christmas day and they were going over to the Shaws. He was going to be spending it with Leigh and he wasn't ready.
"Almost." He called back as he looked at himself in the mirror. Since he has been home, his feelings for Leigh have resurfaced after many years of pushing them down. He sighed before he decided that it would be best to just head down and get out of his head.
"Finally son." Y/D/N teased him as he just smirked. Y/N just gave them a tight lipped smile before he walked out of the house behind his parents.
When they reached the Shaw residence, Y/M/N knocked and the door was soon opened by Amy.
"Hi, come in. Come in." She said with a wide smile as the three thanked her as they walked inside. Y/M/N and Y/D/N fell right into place as Y/M/N helped in the kitchen and Y/D/N sat with Richard on the sofa talking. It had been a very long time since he had been here. The last time was High School.
"You look out of place." Jules spoke up as she stood beside Y/N.
"Well, I don't think I belong here." He told her honestly. "It's been so long since I have been around all of these people and I just don't fit in their lives anymore."
"Sure you do Y/N." Jules said as she pulled him towards the kitchen. He saw his mum, Amy, Leigh and Richard's wife and daughter. Jules led him over to the fridge for a can of soda each before they went out into the yard.
They both took a seat at the garden table at the far end of the garden. They could hear the laughter and everything from inside.
"It just seems like everyone here moved on with their life without me in it and I have no idea where I fit in now." He told her as he took a sip of his soda.
"Well I can tell you, your parents missed you every christmas so they started to spend it here. Leigh has missed you since you left." She told him. "When you came back was the first time since Matt died that she had took off her wedding ring."
"Why?" He asked her as she just chuckled.
"The two of you claim to be so smart." She chuckled as she shook her head as she walked back inside. He honestly had no idea what she meant. But before he could think about it his phone started to ring.
"Hello." He answered without looking at the caller I.D.
"Hi, is this Y/N Y/L/N?" They asked through the phone.
"It is. And you are?" He asked them cautiously.
"I'm Damian Grange from Grange Publishings." He started. "I was passed your manuscript earlier this week and I have to say that I am in love with it. I love the whole idea of the two main characters being best friends and in love but neither could tell the other before it was too late. Would you be interested in making it a series?"
"Yeah, that was my initial idea." He told him as he paced the floor.
"Would you be willing to fly out to New York to meet tomorrow?" He asked Y/N. "I can have a seat on the last flight out today."
"Oh wow." Y/N breathed out. "Yes." He confirmed as he felt his heart beat fast.
"That's great, I'll email all of the details over to you and I will see you tomorrow." He said cheerfully before hey hung up. Y/N stood there looking at his phone for what seemed like forever with a smile on his face.
"Hey, Y/N. Everyone's sitting down to eat." Jules spoke as she approached him. Y/N looked at her with a smile whifh confused her.
"They picked up my book." He told her as she looked confused. "They're going to publish my book. I'm getting published."
"Oh my god." Jules squealed as she pulled him in for hug. "I'm so proud of you." They both were excited but they hadn't realised that Leigh had read his book.
"I'm leaving tonight for New York." He told her as Jules smile faltered as Leigh was losing her chance.
As they were all sat at the table sharing small talk. Leigh kept glancing at Y/N who just looked at his plate and looked at every notification.
"Y/N, why are you so quiet and keep looking at your phone." Y/D/N asked his son who just looked up sharing a smile with Jules.
"Uhm, I'm going back to New York tonight. My book is getting published and the editor wants to meet in person tomorrow." He told them as everyone cheered. Leigh watched as everyone congratulated him before she walked out of the house. She was losing time. She was losing time on confessing her feelings for Y/N. Was she ready to just up and leave.
"Where's Leigh?" Y/N asked everyone who shrugged.
"Probably the bathroom." Amy said as they all sat back in their seats.
"Go after her." Jules whispered to him as he just nodded. He saw her through the window stood on the porch.
"Leigh." Y/N spoke up as he closed the door behind him
"What Y/N?" She said hastily. She was hurt. Heartbroken once again.
"Come with me." He told her as she looked at him with a shocked expression. He stood there waiting for her answer.
