The twisted trees were much more frightening at night. The dark wood was dense and confusing past nightfall. Heavy footsteps disturbed the quiet of the lonesome wood, twigs snapped under the heavy boots worn on the feet of the intruder. Dressed in black, they lurked in the trees, each movement swift to ensure they remained concealed. They had to be close. she had to be in here somewhere. They were determined to find her for they could not go back empty-handed they needed to please her.

Evelyn sat with Pietro unsure of what was to come. She was full of dread. Something bad was going to happen she knew it. She could not tell if the feeling which filled her veins and chilled her bones was because of Pietro's increasingly shallow breaths or if it was because of the rustling of nearby leaves and branches. All she knew was death was coming.

She looked down at his pale face which rested in her lap. His wounds had healed but his breathing was still shakey. Each breath drawn seemed to be a struggle for his body, ragged and shallow. She knew they were at risk to travel this late. She also knew that her body was worn out and she needed rest before she could make the journey home with the both of them. The more she thought the more she became fearful. Pietro couldn't make it unless she found someone to help them. At the thought, she began to cry. No one knew where they were. she was isolated in the woods far from home and had no idea how to return to the comfort of her bed and the safety of her family.

Sobs rang out through the wood. The sound travelled through the trees slicing through the silence. She cried louder as it occurred to her that no one could hear them.

"We need help!" she sobbed out, knowing her cries would only fall upon the ears of the creatures inhabiting the wood. Unbeknownst to her, unwelcome guests in the woods would hear her cries and smile knowing they had found what they were searching for.

--------

"Ah no worries I'm here angel" They murmured to themselves. Oh, she would be so satisfied with them once they brought the angel back to her. She would be so pleased she might even thank them. Oh how lovely that would be

They could feel the adrenaline that fueled their movements. They moved briskly through the trees. They pictured the look of shock which would resent itself on Evelyn's face. They imagined how pretty she must be now, strong and healthy. They glanced down at their arm at the thought. If they returned Evelyn to her rightful place it would be gone, and the pain would be over. They could finally move on and live without this mark holding them back.

Hello my lovely readers. Yes, there has been quite the gap. I have been homeless for the past year and moving from couch to couch, place to place. Now I have actually moved into a stable environment I will have more time to write. I understand that it must be frustrating to be reading something that is so inconsistent with updates and I will try to improve. This chapter is short but the next will be longer as it will be the chapter to unfold everything
