I ran with my father, past the shops I went to as an infant with my mother. "Son, you have got to keep moving when I tell you to" exclaimed father, as he pulled me behind a bin, avoiding a spotlight "or we won't make it out of here." We didn't know what was outside of Londinium, but what we DID know is that it was better than staying put. "Dad.." I whispered "there's a-" "No time for distractions son" he interrupted "they are a weakness in times like the-" "Dad." I said in a panic. "What?" "Drone!"
I had barely gotten hidden by the time father had hacked the drone, causing it to turn on the guards and give us time to slip past, unseen and unheard, using the gunfire as cover for our footsteps in the puddles.
"Father? How much longer until we scale the CyberWall?" I asked. The CyberWall was implemented in 2038, according to mother, and was forced upon London by the new government, CyberCorps, against the wishes of the civilians of Londinium.
Before CyberCorps showed up, the city was known to all as London, father told me that, the capital city of England. But thanks to them showing up and taking control of our once great country, they hacked our systems, took over Parliament, overthrew our government, and changed the name to Londinium. And, like I said, the worst thing of all is that The Order Of The Shrewd decided to trap those who didn't leave the city by 2042, so that they had people to rule over, and those who stayed had to never try and leave. Father stayed to take care of mother, who was sick at the time. I wish she recovered, then we would still all be together.
Then, 2 years later, in 2044, I was born. My mother would raise me mostly, whilst my father would go out scavenging. That was when my life was at its best. But now, mother was gone, and it was just me and father. The 2 of us, against CyberCorps.
"It's just up ahead, James." he replied. While he said this, he was able to shut down all electronics within a quarter of a mile radius, giving us the concealment we needed to reach the CyberWall. "Ok son, use these gloves and boots to scale the wall." Father said, as we began to climb. "Father?" I spoke up, as the silence was extremely awkward "What is beyond the wall?" "I do not know. But what I do know is that we will need to change our names, otherwise CyberCorps will find us. Do you understand, son?" he responded. "But I was named by my mo...yes father, I..I understand". I didn't want to change my name, but I understood the urgency of mine and my father's situation. "Good, I'm proud of you son. Now, you'll be Maverick, named after my old companion, and I'll be Re-" *BANG!*, *POW!*.
The sound was deafening. First I heard and saw the gunshot pierce through my father's heart, and then I heard the EMP, which targeted the gloves and boots me and father were equipped with, and the next thing I knew, I had slipped and fallen onto my side. I was a goner. I could hear the gun of a Superior Guard activating, and I curled up in fear, assuming death would take me soon. But little did I know, it still hadn't earned me.
All of a sudden, a man in a black uniform with dark blue accents and a dark blue face mask jumped in front of me, shot the guards whilst not missing a headshot between the eyes, picked me up and ran. "Let me go!" I commanded. The man's reply was "Mr Elshire, my name is Ron, I'm part of a hacker group, and your father saved me from guards when I was younger than you, so now I'm repaying the favour!". I was in shock, "How do you know MY name though, we've never met?!" I demanded answers, but I never expected what came next.
"But James... I'm your cousin!"
