Piper LancasterI feel my phone vibrate in my pocket and I look to see a text message from mom.
Mom: Did you go to school?
Me: Yup
Mom: And you didn't think to leave me a message or tell me where you were going? You know the rules, Piper.
Me: I'm aware, Mom. I'll remember to next time, I... didn't really feel like talking this morning
I waited for a few seconds while I see her typing. I was still nervous about what she was going to say, but usually I am comfortable telling her what mindset I am in. She is quite respectful which I have always been grateful for and try to show the same attitude back.
Mom: I understand. Take all the time you need.
I put my phone back in my pocket and walked out the school. Bailey told me that he wanted to drive me back home, but I declined. I found myself enjoying walking home my first day. Besides the bear encounter of course. And maybe I'll see my wolf friend. I stop in my tracks, the school around the corner.
Wolf.
Black and Silver
Blue eyes.
Owen.
My wolf friend was Owen. He was a werewolf, it made perfect sense. But how did he not get caught walking me home. How did my family not get his scent or anything?
I walk through the woods along the road, hoping to see him again. I scan the trees. I know that he wouldn't just walk up to me. The only reason why he did was because I was going to be eaten by a bear. I think. We barely knew each other, why would he help me? Is it because he is feeling all the things I am? No, he couldn't. It's impossible. I heard something deeper in the forest. I couldn't help myself. I find myself wandering into the woods.
The leaves crunch under my weight as I take small steps. I hear more rustling. That is definitely more than one animal running. I pick up my pace, making sure my backpack is secure. If there are wolves, I want to see them. What if they are from my pack? I wouldn't mind seeing them in action. I walk into a clearing, a small field with a patch of long grass. I walk into the clearing and set my bag on the ground. This might be one of my favorite new places. It doesn't look like its been found by a lot of people. I lay on the ground and I wouldn't mind if I fell asleep right here and now. I close my eyes.
