Owen Mona
The brothers keep talking about Piper almost the entire dinner. They wouldn't shut up about how we should talk with her and how we need to learn what happened. Eventually I had enough.
"Guys, stop. She clearly doesn't want to see us or anything to do with us. Leave her alone, we have duties to fulfill." I say, finishing up my food, slamming my fork against the plate. They all stare at me.
"Out of all us, you should be the one most upset with the situation. How are you not running after her right now?" Theo asks, confusion clear on his face. Jamie keeps tapping the table with his fingers. I pinch my nose bridge.
"Did I ever say I wasn't upset?" I grunt out. Theo's eyes widen at my response.
"So you are struggling?" He says hesitantly.
"Of course I am. There is nothing more I want to do right now, then slam down Thomas freaking Cyrus' door, grab her and head back home. I could do that if I wanted. But the whole reason why I didn't tell her that she is mate in the first place was because I didn't want to be the person to tell her to make the choice I want her to. Going after her when she does't want to see me kind of defeats that whole purpose huh?" I snap. My hands are laid out on the table and I can feel that my eyes are wide because of my emotions running through me so quickly. Everyone went quite real fast. Jamie almost looks like he is even about to laugh.
"I'm pretty sure that is the most you have ever talked, O." Theo says with a sly smile. Jamie elbows him in agreement. Beau lifts up a hand for the waitress to see, and orders a cobbler. Theo's eyes light up with hunger. But when the cobbler arrives, Beau gives the plate to me. Theo's mouth drop open with betrayal.
"Eat up, O. I think you need all the drugs you can get and sugar is the most potent one." He says giving me a fork without looking me in the eyes. I roll my eyes but take the fork anyway. Theo chokes, showing his disbelief even more. He rubs with eye with one finger. I flip him off as well when I take a bite. I think about what I said.
Now that I have seen her, I have to see her again. It's like sugar. I got a little bit and now I have to have more. I need to figure out what happened and why she stayed away from us. She looked so powerful. She felt powerful. It was as if the coma she was in completely replenished her, and tripled her magic. I could also feel the other part of her. The wolf. Her alpha scent is stronger than anyone I have ever met. And it's angry. It wants to fight. It wants to kill.
I'll find a way to see her tonight. I'll sneak out, try to get on Cyrus territory without getting caught or mauled. The memory of her laughter enters my mind and I almost choke on my cobbler. I hope that one day she will laugh with me one day, and I hope that I can make her smile.
"Owen? Why are you climbing out of the window?" I hear a small voice coming from my room. I am halfway out of my window, getting ready to go see Piper. But my little brother Danny is standing in the doorway. I curse to myself and get out of the window. It's around ten o'clock, and I thought he would be asleep around now. I pull him into my room and crouch by him.
"What are you doing up, Daniel?" I ask, a little bit of frustration flowing through. Danny pouts at the sound of his full name. He crosses his arms.
"I asked you a question first dummy." He says, a pout in full motion. I sigh and hang my head. I look up at him.
"I'm going to see a friend, okay? It's late you are supposed to be in bed." I stand up but Danny looks down at the ground.
"I had a nightmare." He says very quietly. I take a deep breath and kneel down again. I put a hand on his cheek to lift up his head. He looks scared and shaken up. I ruffle his hair.
"Why are you getting these, huh, kid?" I mutter, a talent that I haven't been able to master because everyone hears me anyway.
"I've been trying to be brave like Piper told me, but it's-it's hard. They happen almost every night." He says, tears dripping down his cheeks. I wipe them away and pull him in for a hug.
"You're going to see her, aren't you?" Danny says behind my back. I stiffen at the mention of Piper.
"Just be careful... please. I had a dream where you left to go see her," he hiccups, "and you got hurt really bad." He cries. I rub his back while I feel him rub his eyes.I pull him in front of me.
"I am going to be okay, I promise. Nothing is going to happen it was just a dream." I say, more to myself than to Danny. He nods his head.
"Hey, how about this? You can stay in room and wait for me to get back. I should be here shortly after midnight. That sound okay, kid?" I say ruffling his hair once more. He nods his head, tears still sliding down his cheeks. I grab the stuffed bear my mom made for me when I was a kid and gave it to Danny before I lifted him up. He hugs the bear tightly as I set him on my bed.
"You watch out for Mr. Sniffles. He is very delicate these days." I whisper. Danny nods his head and is already drifting off to sleep. I was planning on getting rid of the bear when I was younger. I grew out of it. But ever since Danny was born he grew attached to it. And ever since mom died... so have I. I pat the bear and then Danny before I hop out the window and start running into the woods. Piper. Piper.
